Graphene nanoscrolls (GNSs) are unique structures with interlayer coupling modes distinct from those in graphene and carbon nanotubes, exhibiting potential physical properties yet to be explored. Here we investigated the low-frequency Raman modes in GNSs formed from 1 to 3 layer graphene (1-3LG). The results of the Raman spectroscopy show that both shear (C) and layer breathing (LB) modes have appeared in monolayer graphene nanoscrolls (1L-GNSs), although these modes never exist in the flat 1LG.

We present a comprehensive global analysis of genetic variants associated with autosomal-dominant Alzheimer's disease (ADAD). A total of 550 variants in the APP, PSEN1, and PSEN2 genes were identified, of which 279 were classified as pathogenic or likely pathogenic based on ACMG-AMP criteria, utilizing data from the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network (DIAN), literature, and public databases. Symptomatic age at onset (AAO) data was estimated for 227 of these variants, allowing detailed characterization of their frequency, pathogenicity, and AAO.

Acyl-CoA oxidase 1 (ACOX1), a member of the acyl-coenzyme A oxidase family, is considered a crucial regulator whose dysregulation is implicated in the occurrence and progression of various cancers. This study aims to elucidate the impact of ACOX1 in CRC, shedding light on its potential as a therapeutic target. Through analysis of the GEO dataset, it was found that ACOX1 is significantly downregulated in colorectal cancer (CRC), and this lower expression level is associated with a worse prognosis.

Melanin with antioxidant and antibacterial properties can be used in food, cosmetics, biotechnology, and other fields, but its insolubility become a main challenge hindering for its application. In this study, water-soluble melanin produced by the novel species Streptomyces vilmorinianum YP1 was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UVvisible spectroscopy (with an absorption peak at 220 nm), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Despite significant advances in the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC), the prognosis for late-stage patients remains poor, highlighting the urgent need for new preventive and therapeutic strategies. Recent studies have focused on the ketogenic diet (KD) and its metabolite, β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), for their tumor-suppressive effects and modulation of inflammatory responses. Using the azoxymethane (AOM) / dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced mouse CRC model, we found that the ketogenic diet and BHB inhibit pro-tumor N2-type tumor-associated neutrophils (TANs) while promoting the polarization of TANs towards the anti-tumor N1 type.

Superatoms are special clusters with similar physicochemical properties to individual atoms in the periodic table, which open up new avenues for exploring inexpensive catalysts. Given that the ZrO superatom possesses the same number of valence electrons as a Pd atom, the mechanisms of the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction catalyzed by (ZrO) ( = 1-4) clusters have been investigated and compared with the corresponding Pd ( = 1-4) species to explore superatom-based catalysts for the formation of C-C bonds a density functional theory (DFT) study. It was interesting to find that the catalytic activities of (ZrO) ( = 1-4) towards the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction gradually improved as the cluster size increased.

This review paper focuses on the research progress of xylitol biosynthesis, from overcoming the limitations of traditional chemical hydrogenation and xylose bioconversion, to the full biosynthesis of xylitol production using green and non-polluting glucose as substrate.
