Decision-Making under Uncertainty: How Easterners and Westerners Think Differently.

It has long been known that Easterners exhibit more conservative attitudes, cautiousness behaviors, and self-control ability than Westerners; people in Eastern countries show stronger defensive reactions to societal threats than Western people. Are East Asians really risk averters or do some richer underlying preferences drive their behaviors in their decision-making under uncertainty? To answer this question, we examined the risk and ambiguity attitudes of East Asian populations in both gain and loss domains using classical behavioral economic experimental methods. Based on our sample of university students, we found that Easterners are more risk intolerant but more willing to accept ambiguous conditions than their Westerner counterparts in the gain domain.

[Analysis of prescription regularity of traditional Chinese medicine for colorectal cancer based on data mining].

The tumor prescriptions contained in Dictionary of Tumor Formulas, Compendium of Good Tumor Formulas, Chinese Pharmacopoeia, Ministry of Health Drug Standards for Chinese Medicine Formulas and National Compilation of Standards for Proprietary Chinese Medicines were selected and organized to construct a database for tumor prescriptions, and the data mining techniques were applied to investigate the prescription regularity of colorectal cancer prescriptions. The formula data were extracted after screening in strict accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and were then analyzed with Microsoft Excel 2010 for frequency statistics, Apriori block provided by SPSS Clementine 12.0 software for correlation rule analysis, and arules and arulesViz packages in R 4.

Background: Percutaneous full-endoscopic surgery was recently developed for the treatment of cervical foraminal stenosis and posterolateral disc herniation. However, there are no studies involving endoscopic surgery to treat cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM).

Objectives: To observe the safety, feasibility, and efficacy of posterolateral full-endoscopic ventral decompression (PLEVD) via computed tomography (CT)-guided surgery in patients with single-level CSM.

CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing can inhibit virus infection by targeting the conserved regions of the viral genomic DNA. Unexpectedly, we found previously that pseudorabies virus (PRV) could escape from CRISPR/Cas9-mediated inhibition. In order to elucidate whether the escape of PRV from Cas9-mediated inhibition was due to cell deficiencies, such as genetic instability of sgRNA or Cas9 protein, the positive cells were passaged ten times, and PRV infection in the sgRNA-expressing cells was evaluated in the present study.

Long-term Follow-up of Patients Treated with Percutaneous Radiofrequency Thermocoagulation via the Foramen Rotundum for Isolated Maxillary Nerve Idiopathic Trigeminal Neuralgia.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of percutaneous radiofrequency thermocoagulation (PRT) via the foramen rotundum (FR) for the treatment of isolated maxillary (V2) idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (ITN) and assess the appropriate puncture angle through the anterior coronoid process to reach the FR.

Methods: Between January 2011 and October 2016, 87 patients with V2 ITN refractory to conservative treatment were treated by computed tomography (CT)-guided PRT via the FR at our institution. The outcome of pain relief was assessed by the visual analog scale (VAS) and Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) pain grade and grouped as complete pain relief (BNI grades I-III) or unsuccessful pain relief (BNI grades IV-V).
