Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are limited by insufficient therapeutic efficacy of low-dose radiation and nonspecific drug biodistribution. Herein, an acid-responsive aggregated nanosystem (AuNPs-D-P-DA) loaded with doxorubicin (DOX) is designed for radiosensitization and synergistic chemoradiotherapy. In response to the acid microenvironment of esophageal cancer (EC), small-sized AuNPs-D-P-DA forms large-sized gold nanoparticle (AuNPs) aggregates in tumor tissues to hinder the backflow of AuNPs to the circulation, resulting in enhanced tumor accumulation and retention.

Atypical luminescent compounds that do not contain conventional chromophores emit light due to clustering and have important basic research value and a broad range of potential applications. To date, most atypical luminescent compounds are small molecules or polymers containing groups such as cyano, carbonyl and hydroxyl. In this work, driven by some sporadic and accidental luminescence phenomena observed for cucurbit[n]urils (Q[n]s), the luminescent properties and mechanism of Q[n]s in the solid- and solution-state were systematically studied and the clustering emission of Q[n]s confirmed.

The application of sulfate radical advanced oxidation for organic pollutant removal has been hindered by some shortages such as the recycling difficulty of a powered catalyst, the low utilization efficiency of oxidants, and the secondary pollution (including soil acidification) after reaction. Herein, we fabricate a selective separation catalysis membrane (SSCM) for a highly efficient and environment-friendly persulfate-based advanced oxidation process. The SSCM comprises a top polydimethylsiloxane layer which is selectively penetrable to hydrophobic organic pollutants, followed by a catalyst layer with a magnetic nitrogen-doped porous carbon material, targeting the advanced oxidation of the selected pollutants.

Article Synopsis
  • A novel light-responsive molecular switch was created using a compound called 1,1'-bis(benzyl)-4-[2-(4-pyridyl)-vinyl]-pyridinium (1) and cucurbit[7]uril (Q[7]).
  • The switch operates through isomerization of a double bond, changing from a 1 : 2 complex (1@Q[7]) to a more stable 1 : 1 complex (1@Q[7]).
  • Both complexes can emit cold white fluorescence when exposed to UV light.

In the Internet age, emotions exist in cyberspace and geospatial space, and social media is the mapping from geospatial space to cyberspace. However, most previous studies pay less attention to the multidimensional and spatiotemporal characteristics of emotion. We obtained 211,526 Sina Weibo data with geographic locations and trained an emotion classification model by combining the Bidirectional Encoder Representation from Transformers (BERT) model and a convolutional neural network to calculate the emotional tendency of each Weibo.

Three different complexes, TMeQ[6]-TBT, Q[7]-TBT, and Q[8]-TBT are constructed by three different cucurbiturils and synthesized by guest melamine-cored Schiff bases (TBT) through outer-surface interaction and host-guest interactions. TBT forms a TMeQ[6]-TBT complex with TMeQ[6] through outer-surface interaction, while Q[7]-TBT and Q[8]-TBT form complexes with Q[7,8] through host-guest interactions. Among them, Q[7]-TBT is selected as a UV detector for the detection of silver ions (Ag).

Venomous animals have evolved to produce peptide toxins that modulate the activity of voltage-gated sodium (Na) channels. These specific modulators are powerful probes for investigating the structural and functional features of Na channels. Here, we report the isolation and characterization of δ-theraphotoxin-Gr4b (Gr4b), a novel peptide toxin from the venom of the spider Gr4b contains 37-amino acid residues with six cysteines forming three disulfide bonds Patch-clamp analysis confirmed that Gr4b markedly slows the fast inactivation of Na1.

  • High-performance lithium batteries are increasingly needed due to rising demand for next-generation energy storage systems, yet current lithium anodes suffer from rapid capacity decay and short cycle life due to issues like solid electrolyte interface and isolated lithium (i-Li) formation.
  • The prevalent belief is that i-Li is inactive and contributes to capacity loss since it disconnects from the current collector, but recent findings indicate that i-Li can respond dynamically to electric fields in the electrolyte and participate in lithium deposition and dissolution during battery operations.
  • Research shows that the progression of i-Li can be influenced by factors such as its length, orientation, and applied current density, and successful recovery of i-Li has led to lithium cells achieving over 100% Coulombic

Bioinspired smart functional surfaces have received increasing attention in recent years owed to their tunable wettability and enhanced droplet transport suggesting them as excellent candidates for industrial and nanotechnology-related applications. More specifically, bioinspired slippery lubricant infused porous surfaces (SLIPSs) have been proposed for their low adhesion enabling continuous dropwise condensation (DWC) even of low-surface tension fluids. In addition, functional surfaces with chemical and/or structural wettability gradients have also been exploited empowering spontaneous droplet transport in a controlled manner.

A novel approach to efficient and selective construction of [4]rotaxane was proposed to demonstrate the superiority of H-bonded azo-macrocycles in forging higher order rotaxanes. The single crystal structure reveals the importance of the interplay of multiple non-covalent bonding interactions, particularly π-stacking interactions, in stabilizing the host-guest complex. This may open an avenue to the synthesis of oligomeric mechanically interlocked molecules containing fewer stations but more rings.
