Background: The fourth webinar in a 4-part series hosted by the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery explored contemporary endoscopic spine surgery techniques. This session covered complex revision strategies, endoscopic management of grades 1-3 spondylolytic spondylolisthesis, cervical foraminotomy, and decompression techniques for cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM).
Objective: The aim was to assess surgeon endorsement of the discussed endoscopic spine surgery techniques both before and after the webinar using polytomous Rasch analysis.
Background: The authors conducted a comprehensive review and integration of insights from 4 webinars hosted by the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS) to arrive at recommendations for best clinical practices for guideline development for endoscopic spine surgery. This perspective article discusses the limitations of traditional surgical trials and amalgamates surgeons' experience and research on various cutting-edge techniques.
Methods: Data were extracted from surveys conducted during each webinar session involving 3639 surgeons globally.
Identifying the primary source of heavy metals (HMs) pollution and the key pollutants is crucial for safeguarding eco-health and managing risks in industrial vicinity. For this purpose, this investigation was carried out to investigate the pollution area identification with soil static environmental capacity (QI), receptor model-oriented critical sources, and Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) based probabilistic environmental and human health hazards associated with HMs in agricultural soils of Narayanganj, Bangladesh. The average concentration of Cr, Ni, Cu, Cd, Pb, Co, Zn, and Mn were 98.

In the testis, it must exceed a desirable level since either a shortage or an overabundance causes aberrant growth. The antioxidant properties of selenium are essential for preserving human reproductive health.

Despite their importance, the susceptibility of fMSCs to viral infections remains uncertain. This study aimed to assess the susceptibility of feline adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (fAD-MSCs) and feline umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (fUC-MSCs) to common feline viruses, including feline coronavirus (FCoV), feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1), and feline panleukopenia virus (FPV).

Background: Effective 1 January 2017, single-level endoscopic lumbar discectomy received a Category I Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code 62380. However, no work relative value units (RVUs) are currently assigned to the procedure. An international team of endoscopic spine surgeons conducted a study, endorsed by several spine societies, analyzing the learning curve, difficulty, psychological intensity, and estimated work RVUs of endoscopic lumbar spinal decompression compared with other common lumbar spine surgeries.

However, the patient selection criteria are debated among spine surgeons.
Objective: This study used a polytomous Rasch analysis to evaluate the factors influencing surgeon decision-making in selecting patients for endoscopic surgical treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis.
Objective: This study aims to investigate whether tracheal extubation at different depths of anesthesia using Narcotrend EEG (NT value) can influence the recovery quality from anesthesia and cognitive function of children who underwent tonsillotomy.
Methods: The study enrolled 152 children who underwent tonsillotomy and were anesthetized with endotracheal intubation in our hospital from September 2019 to March 2022. These patients were divided into Group A (conscious group, NT range of 95-100), Group B (light sedation group, NT range of 80-94), and Group C (conventional sedation group, NT range of 65-79).

Objective: Preeclampsia is a common and serious pregnancy complication, with a high risk of onset in clinical practice, which seriously affects the physical and mental health of patients. Insufficient nutrition is considered as one of the factors contributing to the occurrence of preeclampsia, but there are few reports on the prevention of preeclampsia through nutritional interventions. This study reports the effects of personalized nutritional support on a second pregnancy in a woman with severe preeclampsia.

However, its effectiveness is hindered by significant toxicity and drug resistance. Moreover, the presence of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) brings a crucial challenge to glioma therapy.

Here, by integrating the transcriptome, microbiome, and serum metabolome, we comprehensively explain the impact of AFB1 on testis from the gut-metabolism-testis axis.

Frequently undiagnosed in early stages, AS is often associated with comorbid depression and anxiety, imposing significant healthcare burdens.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFImmunotherapy has achieved prominent clinical efficacy in combating cancer and has recently become a mainstream treatment strategy. However, achieving broad efficacy with a single modality is challenging, and the heterogeneity of the tumor microenvironment (TME) restricts the accuracy and effectiveness of immunotherapy strategies for tumors. Herein, a TME-responsive targeted nanoparticle to enhance antitumor immunity and reverse immune escape by codelivering interleukin-12 (IL-12) expressing gene and colony-stimulating factor-1 receptor (CSF-1R) inhibitor PLX3397 (PLX) is presented.

Upon integrating a carbon nitride (CN) nanofilm and molybdenum dioxide (MoO) nanosheets onto nanojungle-like TiO nanotube arrays (TiNTs), the fabricated chemiresistor showed rapid response (38 s)/recovery (58 s) abilities and remarkable detection sensitivity for HS at concentrations down to 2 ppb, with an estimated detection limit of 1.13 ppb at RT and room-environmental light (REL).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDespite the tremendous progress in cancer treatment in recent decades, cancers often become resistant due to multiple mechanisms, such as intrinsic or acquired multidrug resistance, which leads to unsatisfactory treatment effects or accompanying metastasis and recurrence, ultimately to treatment failure. With a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms of tumors, researchers have realized that treatment designs targeting tumor resistance mechanisms would be a promising strategy to break the therapeutic deadlock. Nanodelivery systems have excellent physicochemical properties, including highly efficient tissue-specific delivery, substantial specific surface area, and controllable surface chemistry, which endow nanodelivery systems with capabilities such as precise targeting, deep penetration, responsive drug release, multidrug codelivery, and multimodal synergy, which are currently widely used in biomedical researches and bring a new dawn for overcoming cancer resistance.

Methods And Results: In this study, for the first time, we employed whole transcriptome sequencing technology to explore the molecular mechanism by which AFB1 affects the growth of porcine alveolar macrophages (PAM). We found that AFB1 exposure reduced the proliferative capacity of PAM and prevented cell cycle progression.
Objective: To retrospectively analyze the effect of applying an ultrasound-guided bilateral erector spine plane block (ESPB) after the Nuss procedure for surgical repair of pectus excavatum (PE) in children.
Methods: The subjects of the study were patients with severe PE who received the Nuss procedure in our hospital between 1 January 2019 and 30 November 2021. According to different methods for postoperative pain management, the enrolled patients were divided into two groups, the ultrasound-guided ESPB group and the thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) group.
Background: Durotomy during endoscopic spine surgery can cause a patient's neurological or cardiovascular status to deteriorate unexpectedly intra- or postoperatively. There is currently limited literature regarding appropriate fluid management strategies, irrigation-related risk factors, and clinical consequences of incidental durotomy during spinal endoscopy, and no validated irrigation protocol exists for endoscopic spine surgery. Thus, the present article sought to (1) describe 3 cases of durotomy, (2) investigate standard epidural pressure measurements, and (3) survey endoscopic spine surgeons on the incidence of adverse effects believed to result from durotomy.
