A Mitochondrial Genome of Rhyparochromidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) and a Comparative Analysis of Related Mitochondrial Genomes.

The Rhyparochromidae, the largest family of Lygaeoidea, encompasses more than 1,850 described species, but no mitochondrial genome has been sequenced to date. Here we describe the first mitochondrial genome for Rhyparochromidae: a complete mitochondrial genome of Panaorus albomaculatus (Scott, 1874). This mitochondrial genome is comprised of 16,345 bp, and contains the expected 37 genes and control region.

Oleoylethanolamide exerts anti-inflammatory effects on LPS-induced THP-1 cells by enhancing PPARα signaling and inhibiting the NF-κB and ERK1/2/AP-1/STAT3 pathways.

The present study aimed to examine the anti-inflammatory actions of oleoylethanolamide (OEA) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced THP-1 cells. The cells were stimulated with LPS (1 μg/ml) in the presence or absence of OEA (10, 20 and 40 μM). The pro-inflammatory cytokines were evaluated by qRT-PCR and ELISA.

A method for determining volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by cryogenic dynamic adsorption in solid adsorbent tubes, subsequent thermal desorption with cryofocusing in a cold trap and analysis by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry was adapted for continuous ambient air monitoring. VOCs pollution characteristics and health risk assessment (HRA)were researched in detail. Moreover, the sources apportionment was reliably analyzed by positive matrix factorization (PMF) model.

[Removal and Recycle of Phosphor from Water Using Magnetic Core/Shell Structured Fe₃O₄ @ SiO₂Nanoparticles Functionalized with Hydrous Aluminum Oxide].

A novel magnetic core/shell structured nano-particle Fe₃O₄@ SiO₂phosphor-removal ahsorbent functionalized with hydrous aluminum oxides (Fe₃O₄@ SiO₂@ Al₂O₃· nH₂O) was synthesized. Fe₃O₄@ SiO₂@ Al₂O₃· nH₂O was characterized by XRD, TEM, VSM and BET nitrogen adsorption experiment. The XRD and TEM results demonstrated the presence of the core/shell structure, with saturated magnetization and specific surface area of 56.

Heteroptera are among the most diverse hemimetabolous insects. Seven infraorders have been recognized within this suborder of Hemiptera. Apart from the well-established sister-group relationship between Cimicomorpha and Pentatomomorpha (= Terheteroptera), the two terminal lineages, the relationships among the other five infraorders are still controversial, of which three (Gerromorpha, Nepomorpha and Leptopodomorpha) are intimately connected to aquatic environments.

Plio-Pleistocene evolution of Bohai Basin (East Asia): demise of Bohai Paleolake and transition to marine environment.

The Bohai Basin was transformed to an inner shelf sea hundreds of thousands years ago. This youngest land-sea transition participated in the significant modification of the distribution of fresh water, sediment fluxes and climate in East Asia, and played an important role in the origin of the Asian marginal seas. Here we present the results of a magnetostratigraphic investigation and propose a conceptual model for the land-sea transition.

Functional polymorphism of lncRNA MALAT1 contributes to pulmonary arterial hypertension susceptibility in Chinese people.

Background: The long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have gradually been reported to be an important class of RNAs with pivotal roles in regulation of gene expression, and thus are involved in multitudinous human complex diseases. However, the biological functions and precise mechanisms of the majority of lncRNAs are still poorly understood.

Methods: In the study, we tested genomic variations in lncRNA-metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) loci, and their potentially functional correlationship with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) susceptibility based on a case-control study with a total of 587 PAH patients and 736 healthy controls in southern Chinese.

With the great development of sequencing technologies and systematic methods, our understanding of evolutionary relationships at deeper levels within the tree of life has greatly improved over the last decade. However, the current taxonomic methodology is insufficient to describe the growing levels of diversity in both a standardised and general way due to the limitations of using only morphological traits to describe clades. Herein, we propose the idea of a molecular classification based on hierarchical and discrete amino acid characters.

A series of arene Ru(II) complexes coordinated with phenanthroimidazole derivatives, [(η⁶-C₆H₆)Ru(l)Cl]Cl(1b L = -ClPIP = 2-(4-Chlorophenyl)imidazole[4,5f] 1,10-phenanthroline; 2b L = -ClPIP = 2-(3-Chlorophenyl)imidazole[4,5f] 1,10-phenanthroline; 3b L = -NPIP = 2-(4-Nitrophenyl)imidazole[4,5f] 1,10-phenanthroline; 4b L = -NPIP = 2-(3-Nitrophenyl) imidazole [4,5f] 1,10-phenanthroline) were synthesized in yields of 89.9%-92.7% under conditions of microwave irradiation heating for 30 min to liberate four arene Ru(II) complexes (1b, 2b, 3b, 4b).

[Genetic diversity of rhizobia isolated from common legumes in the Karst area. Northwest Guangxi].

Legumes, with a strong resistance to the adverse environmental conditions, are pioneer plants in degraded habitats, and play an important role in ecosystem restoration. In this study, the nodulation characteristics of 24 legumes were surveyed in the Karst area of Northwest Guangxi. A total of 39 nodule samples were collected from 15 legumes, the DNA was extracted and the 16S rDNA and nifH gene were amplified.

Hidradenoma Papilliferum With Oncocytic Metaplasia: A Histopathological and Immunohistochemical Study.

Hidradenoma papilliferum is a benign cutaneous adnexal neoplasm, commonly occurring in the vulva and perianal region of adult women. It has characteristic histopathological features composed of anastomosing and branching tubules, lined by columnar cells, and a basal layer of myoepithelial cells. A 39-year-old woman was evaluated for 2 asymptomatic labial masses.

Persistent and energetic bottom-trapped topographic Rossby waves observed in the southern South China Sea.

Energetic fluctuations with periods of 9-14 days below a depth of 1400 m were observed in the southern South China Sea (SCS) from 5 years of direct measurements. We interpreted such fluctuations as topographic Rossby waves (TRWs) because they obey the dispersion relation. The TRWs persisted from May 24, 2009 to August 23, 2013, and their bottom current speed with a maximum of ~10 cm/s was one order of magnitude greater than the mean current and comparable to the tidal currents near the bottom.

Hypoxia enhances angiogenesis in an adipose-derived stromal cell/endothelial cell co-culture 3D gel model.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the influence of hypoxia on angiogenesis in a 3D gel, with co-culturing adipose-derived stromal cells (ASCs) and endothelial cells (ECs).

Materials And Methods: ASCs from green fluorescent protein-labeled mice and ECs from red fluorescent protein-labeled mice were co-cultured in 3D collagen gels at 1:1 ratio, in normal and hypoxic oxygen conditions, and morphology of angiogenesis was observed using confocal laser scanning microscopy. To discover changes in growth factors between monoculture ASCs and ECs, transwell co-cultures of ASCs and ECs were applied.

The transition of embryonic stem cell (ESC) pluripotency to differentiation is accompanied by an expansion of mRNA and proteomic diversity. Post-transcriptional regulation of ESCs is critically governed by cell type-specific splicing. However, little is known about the splicing factors and the molecular mechanisms directing ESC early lineage differentiation.

The effect of temperature on the biodegradation properties of municipal solid waste.

The aim of this study is to analyse the effect of temperature on the biodegradation and settlement properties of municipal solid waste by using bioreactors. Three kinds of controlled temperature were performed during the biodegradation test; the variation of weight, leachate and biogas production were carefully monitored. The degradation test indicated that more leachate leaked out owing to the external compression and polymer hydrolysis reaction in the aerobic phase, which could lead to the decrease of biodegradation rate in the anaerobic phase.

Adsorption of phosphate from water by easily separable Fe3O4@SiO2 core/shell magnetic nanoparticles functionalized with hydrous lanthanum oxide.

Hydrous lanthanum oxide was loaded onto the surface of Fe3O4@SiO2 core/shell magnetic nanoparticles to obtain an easily separable adsorbent (abbreviated as Fe-Si-La) for efficient separation of phosphate from water. Fe-Si-La was characterized with XRF, XRD, TEM, specific surface area and magnetization and their performance for phosphate removal was investigated. The Fe3O4@SiO2 core/shell structure was confirmed and the hydrous lanthanum oxide was successfully loaded onto its surface.

MiR-155 Knockout in Fibroblasts Improves Cardiac Remodeling by Targeting Tumor Protein p53-Inducible Nuclear Protein 1.

Cardiac remodeling caused by acute myocardial infarction (AMI) represents a major challenge for heart failure research. MiR-155 has been identified as a key mediator of cardiac inflammation and hypertrophy. In this study, we investigate the role of miR-155 in cardiac remodeling induced by AMI.

Histologic features of secondary syphilis: A multicenter retrospective review.

Background: Secondary syphilis has a wide spectrum of clinical and histologic manifestations.

Objective: We sought to determine the frequency of histopathological features characterizing secondary syphilis, and which are most common in specimens displaying few diagnostic findings.

Methods: In a multicenter, retrospective analysis of biopsy-proven secondary syphilis, cases were subcategorized by the number of histologic characteristics present.

New insights into the enzymatic role of EF-G in ribosome recycling.

During translation, elongation factor G (EF-G) plays a catalytic role in tRNA translocation and a facilitative role in ribosome recycling. By stabilizing the rotated ribosome and interacting with ribosome recycling factor (RRF), EF-G was hypothesized to induce the domain rotations of RRF, which subsequently performs the function of splitting the major intersubunit bridges and thus separates the ribosome into subunits for recycling. Here, with systematic mutagenesis, FRET analysis and cryo-EM single particle approach, we analyzed the interplay between EF-G/RRF and post termination complex (PoTC).

A Morphologic and Quantitative Study of Mechanoreceptors in the Remnant Stump of the Human Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

Purpose: To investigate the morphology and quantity of mechanoreceptors in the remnant stumps of injured anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs) and the association of the number of mechanoreceptors with the time from injury to surgery.

Methods: Complete ACL stump specimens were collected from 40 volunteer patients who underwent arthroscopic ACL reconstruction surgery. Serial sections, 20 μm in thickness, were prepared from each specimen.
