Thermoresponsive polymer 2-hydroxy-3-isopropoxypropyl hydroxyethyl celluloses (HIPECs) were successfully synthesized, characterized, and applied for thermoresponsive drug delivery. The lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of HIPEC could be easily tuned from 21.1 to 56.

The discharge of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHs; ~10,000tons annually) into the Bohai Sea, a shallow inland sea in China, presents a serious threat to the marine environment. To evaluate the effects of PHs pollution and estimate the corresponding environmental capacity, we have developed a genetic algorithm-based coupled hydrodynamic/transport for simulating PHs concentration evolution and distribution from July 2006 to October 2007, with the predicted values being in good agreement with monitoring results. Importantly, the mean PHs concentrations and seasonal concentration variations were primarily determined by external loading, i.

The present paper focuses on developing a numerical oil spill model that incorporates the full three-dimensional wave-current interactions for a better representation of the spilled oil transport mechanics in complicated coastal environments. The incorporation of surface wave effects is not only imposing a traditional drag coefficient formulation at the free surface, but also the 3D momentum equations are adjusted to include the impact of the vertically dependent radiation stresses on the currents. Based on the current data from SELFE and wave data from SWAN, the oil spill model utilizes oil particle method to predict the trajectory of individual droplets and the oil concentration.
