Chinese medicine pair (CMP) was frequently applied in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinic, and its significance was shown in long-term clinical practices and many accumulated experiences. It is the unique combination of two relatively fixed Chinese medicines in TCM clinic with the basic feature and principle of TCM compatibility, is the most fundamental and the simplest form of TCM formulae with certain theory basis and combinatory reason, which is proven effective. And the unique combination is frequently used for achieving mutual reinforcement or detoxication.

Bioassay-guided separation of the 95% ethanol extract from the roots of E. kansui led to the isolation of five diterpenoids whose structures were identified by (1)H, (13)C NMR spectroscopy and HR-ESI-MS as kansuinine B (1), kansuinine A (2), kansuiphorin C (3), 3-O-benzoyl-20-deoxyingenol (4), and 3-O-(2'E,4'Z-decadienoyl)-20-O-acetylingenol (5).

Objective: To establish the best processing technique of Radix Kansui stir-baked with vinegar.
Method: The best processing technique was gained through determining the content of 3-O-(2'E, 4'Z-decadienoyl)-20-O-acetylingenol by HPLC as the index, and orthogonal design experiment-L9 (3(4)) was used to investigate the factors of vinegar amount, baked time and temperature.
Result: The best processing technique was to add 30% vinegar and bake 9 minutes at 260 degrees C.
