Vasectomy interest and awareness among patients and their partners in prenatal clinics in the United States.

Objective: Although vasectomy is safer, more effective and less expensive than tubal ligation, rates of permanent contraception are consistently higher in women than in men. We sought to explore vasectomy interest and awareness in patients and their partners during prenatal visits, a time when contraceptive counselling is typically performed.

Methods: Anonymous surveys were distributed between January and July 2019 to a cross-sectional, convenience sample of pregnant women and their partners, if available, presenting for outpatient prenatal care at two hospitals (one public, one private) serving different patient populations in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Associations between Fatalistic Cancer Beliefs and Cancer-Screening Behaviors in Chinese American Immigrant Women.

Chinese Americans have among the lowest rates of up-to-date cancer screening in the United States. Fatalistic health beliefs are also common in this population and can lead to decreased healthcare utilization. We sought to understand how these fatalistic beliefs are associated with cancer screening behaviors in this underserved population.

A bundled intervention lowers surgical site infection in hysterectomy for benign and malignant indications.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of a surgical site infection (SSI) prevention bundle on SSI rates after hysterectomy for benign and malignant indications at an urban academic medical center.

Methods: The bundled invention was implemented for all abdominal gynecologic surgeries at Prentice Women's Hospital, Chicago, USA, from August 2016 to January 2017, and officially incorporated in department-wide policy from February 1, 2017. SSI data were prospectively collected for any open, vaginal, laparoscopic, or robotic hysterectomy for benign or malignant indications performed from February 2017 to January 2018.

A low-cost approach to salpingectomy at cesarean delivery.

There is increasing adoption of opportunistic salpingectomy for ovarian cancer prevention at the time of gynecologic surgery, which includes the postpartum period. However, there is no consensus on an ideal surgical approach for the parturient vasculature. We describe a safe, low-cost, and accessible approach for bilateral salpingectomy during cesarean delivery that we call the "Mesosalpinx Isolation Salpingectomy Technique" (MIST) that can guide institutions to standardize their postpartum salpingectomy procedures when advanced vessel-sealing devices are not available.

Ruptured Pneumococcal Aortic Aneurysm Presenting as ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction: Case Report and Literature Review.

Ruptured mycotic aneurysms occur infrequently in current clinical practice, and a pneumococcal etiology is even more rare. This case report describes a patient who initially presented with catheter lab activation for an acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction, receiving a full Plavix load. She was subsequently found to have a ruptured aortic aneurysm and underwent emergency surgical repair, with intraoperative findings of an aorta seeded with Streptococcus pneumonia.
