Background: Small cell carcinoma of the bladder is rare and has a poor prognosis. This study aimed to investigate whether radiotherapy after bladder-sparing surgery could improve the survival benefits of patients.

Methods: This population-based retrospective cohort study used data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results cohort in the United States to investigate small cell carcinoma of the bladder.

Background: Kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) who become infected with SARS-CoV-2 are at greater risk of serious illness and death than the general population. To date, the efficacy and safety of the fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in KTRs have not been systematically discussed.

Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis included articles from PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Med Online published before May 15, 2022.

Recent years have witnessed the increasing risk of subsea gas leaks with the development of offshore gas exploration, which poses a potential threat to human life, corporate assets, and the environment. The optical imaging-based monitoring approach has become widespread in the field of monitoring underwater gas leakage, but the shortcomings of huge labor costs and severe false alarms exist due to related operators' operation and judgment. This study aimed to develop an advanced computer vision-based monitoring approach to achieve automatic and real-time monitoring of underwater gas leaks.

Background: Hand osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic progressive disease characterized by disabling pain in the hand, with a high clinical burden. This study is designed to assess the epidemiological patterns of hand OA from 1990 to 2019 and analyze its secular trends based on sex, age, and socio-demographic index (SDI) at global, regional, and national levels.

Methods: Data on the incidence and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of hand OA were extracted from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease (GBD), and their respective age-standardized rates (ASRs) were calculated.

Although patients with renal collecting duct carcinoma (CDC) benefit from surgery, the value of cytoreductive nephrectomy (CNx) for the prognosis of patients with metastatic CDC remains unclear. Hence, in this study, we used data from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry to investigate the prognostic factors and the impact of CNx on the outcomes in patients with metastatic CDC. Data of 521 patients, diagnosed with CDC between 2000 and 2018, were retrieved from the SEER database.

Purpose: Deep myometrial invasion (DMI) is an independent high-risk factor for lymph node metastasis and a prognostic risk factor in early-stage endometrial cancer (EC-I) patients. Thus, we developed a machine learning (ML) assistant model, which can accurately help define the surgical area.

Methods: 348 consecutive EC-I patients with the pathological diagnosis were recruited in the tertiary medical centre between January 1, 2012, and October 31, 2021.

Purpose: To clarify the efficiency and outcomes of suctioning ureteral access sheath (UAS) during flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy (fURL) for the management of renal stones.

Methods: Between January 2017 and January 2019, a total of 444 patients with renal stones undergoing fURL were divided into suctioning UAS and nonsuctioning UAS groups. The outcomes of patients in both groups were compared using a matched-pair analysis (1 : 1 scenario).

Background: Urolithiasis is common worldwide and can predispose to urinary tract infections and renal failure. We aimed to explore the global, regional, and national burden of urolithiasis between 1990 and 2019, stratified by sex, age, and sociodemographic index (SDI).

Methods: From 1990 to 2019, data on the number of incident cases of urolithiasis, associated deaths, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were extracted from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study.

Objective: Renal collecting duct carcinoma (CDC) is an extremely rare disease with few studies, and the current understanding of its prognosis is limited. We used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry data to explore the prognostic factors and effect of treatment modalities on the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with CDC.

Methods: Patients' information of CDCs diagnosed by pathological examination between 2000 and 2018 was extracted from the SEER database.

The incidence rate and mortality of bladder cancer are increasing year by year. Interestingly, the commonly used metabolic regulatory drug metformin has been reported to have anti-tumor effect in recent years. Nevertheless, it keeps unclear whether the usage of metformin is beneficial or unbeneficial in treating bladder cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • - A study analyzed the link between serum uric acid (UA) levels and kidney stone (KS) prevalence in a sample of 82,017 Chinese individuals, revealing that elevated UA levels are associated with a higher risk of developing KS, particularly in men.
  • - Of the participants, 11.5% were diagnosed with KS, and those with KS had a significantly higher average UA level (369.91 μmol/L) compared to those without KS (338.11 μmol/L).
  • - The study concluded that while higher UA levels are linked to increased KS risk in men, this relationship is not observed in women and is diminished in men with malnutrition.

Hyperoxaluria is a risk factor for urolithiasis and can cause renal epithelial cell injury secondary to oxidative stress. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced during cell damage originate from different sources and play different roles. Here, we explored the potential sources of ROS production and investigated the role of ROS from various sources in oxalate-induced oxidative stress and cell injury in normal rat kidney-52 epithelial (NRK-52E) cells.

Purpose: Although papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) is the second common renal malignant tumor, the current understanding of pRCC is poor. This study aims to explore the clinicopathological features and prognostic factors of pRCC.

Methods: From August 2007 and August 2017, 87 patients diagnosed with pRCC by postoperative pathology were enrolled.

Objective: To compare the survival outcomes of local ablation (LA) and partial nephrectomy (PN) for T1N0M0 renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

Method: We identified 38,155 T1N0M0 RCC patients treated with PN or LA in 2004-2016 from the retrospective Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results databases. Among them, there were 4656 LA and 33,499 PN.

Purpose: Collecting duct carcinoma (CDC) is extremely rare and has high malignancy and poor prognosis. The purpose of this research is to explore the clinical characteristic, imaging, pathological diagnosis, treatment and prognostic outcome of CDCs.

Materials And Methods: The clinical data of 12 CDC cases who had been surgically treated between August 2007 and August 2017 and verified the diagnosis of CDC by postoperative pathological and/or immunohistochemical staining (IHC) results were retrospectively analyzed, and related works of literature were reviewed.
