Diagnosis and treatment of solitary fibrous tumor/hemangiopericytoma of central nervous system. Retrospective report of 17 patients and literature review.

To investigate the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT)/ hemangiopericytoma (HPC) of central nervous system (CNS), we retrospectively reviewed records of 17 patients who were treated for CNS SFT/HPC at the Department of Neurosurgery, China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University from December 2010 to June 2016, and reevaluated their pathological diagnoses according to the 2016 WHO classification of CNS tumors. We then analyzed their clinical symptoms, imaging characteristics, treatments and outcomes. Clinical manifestations of CNS SFT/HPC were diverse, but mainly included headache, increased intracranial pressure, seizures, and focal neurological deficits.

Coexisting ventricular septal defect affects the features of ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysms.

To determine the correlation exists between ventricular septal defect (VSD) and ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (RSVA). Methods: Between September 2003 and April 2014, 80 RSVA patients underwent surgical repair. These patients were retrospectively divided into two groups: the VSD group (38 cases) and the non-VSD group (42 cases).

An enterogenous cyst with atypical pathological findings and chemical meningitis.

Introduction: Intracranial enterogenous cysts are rare and mainly occur in the posterior fossa. These cysts are usually extra-axial, midline, anterior to the brainstem, or at the cerebellopontine angle. We report a case of an enterogenous cyst in which diagnosis was difficult because the lesion showed atypical pathologic findings.

Contralateral delayed hematoma secondary to anticoagulant treatment-related intracerebral hemorrhage.

The incidence of anticoagulant treatment (AT)-related intracerebral hemorrhage (AT-ICH) is increasing in consequence of the increased incidence of ischemic stroke due to an aging population. AT-ICH is associated with a risk of ongoing bleeding, death, or disability. Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), a common pathological finding among the elderly that is associated with macro- and microscopic hematoma development, might increase the risk of ICH.
