Article Synopsis
  • Youth with disabilities in China have the right to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information, but their knowledge and access to this information is often inadequate.
  • A survey of 473 unmarried youth aged 15-24 revealed that their knowledge scores related to sexual health varied significantly, with poorer knowledge observed in those with hearing and physical disabilities, particularly in rural areas.
  • The study identified school teachers as the main source of SRH information, while barriers included a lack of knowledge about where to find accurate information and feelings of embarrassment in seeking help.

Maternal exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) during pregnancy may have a programming effect on the physical development of the offspring. However, the findings of the association between PFAS and the physical development of offspring were inconsistent, and the overall effects of the PFAS mixture were unclear. In this study, we examined the associations between maternal PFAS exposure and offspring adiposity during the first two years of life.

Individuals' gender development is influenced by the characteristics of personal and contextual environments. However, the role of sibling contexts in shaping gender norms has rarely been studied among Chinese youth at early adolescence as most of them were the only child. The aim of this paper is to compare perceived gender norms among adolescents aged 10-14 with different sibling configurations, to help inform and tailor guidance for sexual and reproductive health education in the future.

Gestational exposure to bisphenol analogues (BPs),especially bisphenol A (BPA), has been associated with adverse pregnancy-related outcomes and altered reproductive development of offspring, but the underlying mechanisms are not well documented. Kisspeptin, a key regulator of reproductive health, could be the potential target for endocrine disrupting compounds like BPs. Among 528 mother-child pairs, we investigated the associations of gestational BPs exposure with kisspeptin levels in two critical life stages, pregnancy and pre-puberty.

Background: Parenting styles have a tremendous influence on a child's development and behavior. Studies on parenting styles using latent profile analysis have been increasing in recent years. However, there are few such studies conducted in China, especially concerning joint parenting styles (that simultaneously characterize maternal and paternal practices), which are held over the age group of secondary vocational school students.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focused on identifying different types of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) among adolescents in Shanghai and examining how these experiences relate to involvement in violence as victims or perpetrators.
  • About 77.76% of the 1,700 participants reported experiencing at least one type of ACE, with neglect being the most prevalent (64.12%), followed by abuse (61.29%) and household dysfunction (18.24%).
  • The findings revealed that higher exposure to ACEs, particularly abuse and neglect, was significantly linked to increased rates of violence victimization and being both victims and perpetrators, while perpetration was mainly associated with experiences of neglect.

Background: Common subtypes seen in Chinese patients with membranous nephropathy (MN) include idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) and hepatitis B virus-related membranous nephropathy (HBV-MN). However, the morphologic differences are not visible under the light microscope in certain renal biopsy tissues.

Methods: We propose here a deep learning-based framework for processing hyperspectral images of renal biopsy tissue to define the difference between IMN and HBV-MN based on the component of their immune complex deposition.

Study Objective: To investigate the knowledge and beliefs regarding the use of intrauterine devices (IUDs) for nulliparous women among Chinese health care providers and assess the potential factors related to their misconceptions and conservative beliefs. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANT, INTERVENTIONS, AND MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: A self-administered survey was conducted at 2 Chinese national academic conferences in 2015. The questionnaire data obtained from 103 health care providers were analyzed to examine the providers' knowledge regarding the safety and effectiveness of IUDs and the complications associated with IUD use, as well as their beliefs regarding the suitability of IUDs for nulliparous women.

Background: Unintended pregnancy and induced abortion among young (unmarried or nulliparous) women have become serious social and health issues in China, which are thought to partly result from low use of long-acting reversible contraception, such as intrauterine devices (IUDs). Considering that providers may play an especially important role in increasing use of this particular method, we investigated Chinese health care providers' attitudes and practices regarding IUDs use for nulliparous women, and further examine the potential factors and reasons contributing to their attitudes and practices.

Methods: We recruited health care providers at two Chinese national academic conferences and surveyed them about knowledge of IUDs, willingness to recommend IUDs to nulliparous women, and their related practices.
