The objective of this research was to investigate the antioxidant activity of polysaccharide degradation and its underlying mechanism involved in the Nrf-2/Keap-1 signaling pathway in HepG2 cells with oxidative stress induced by HO. The result of the scavenging ability of free radicals showed that GLP-HV (polysaccharide degraded by HO-vitamin C (Vc)) performed a better scavenging ability than GLP ( polysaccharide). Moreover, the scavenging ability of polysaccharide to these free radicals from strong to weak was as follows: superoxide radical, ferric ion, ABTS, and DPPH radical, and their IC values were 3.

This research aimed to analyze structural characterization and hypolipidemic activity of G. polysaccharide (GLP) and its degradation products. The results presented that the content of galacturonic acid declined and glucuronic acid level enhanced, average particle size decreased from 99.

polysaccharide (GLP) exhibits good physiological activities, and it is more beneficial as it is degraded. After its degradation by hydrogen peroxide combined with vitamin C (HO-Vc) and optimized by Box-Behnken Design (BBD), a new product of GLP-HV will be generated. While using GLP as control, two products of GLP-H (HO-treated) and GLP-V (Vc-treated) were also produced.

is a kind of edible economic red algae, which is rich in polysaccharide, phycobiliprotein, pigments, minerals and other nutrients and functional components. Polysaccharide is one of the main active components of , which has been reported to present various physiological bioactivities, including regulation of glycolipid metabolism, immune, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory and other biological activities. This paper aims to provide a brief summary of extraction, purification, structural characteristics, and physiological activities of polysaccharide (GLP).

Mulberry has significant hypoglycemic effect and can be used as an auxiliary food for people with type 2 diabetes. However, it is rich in carbohydrate and cannot be consumed directly by diabetic patients. In the study, we fermented the mulberry to reduce the content of glucose and fructose, and added the soybean to reduce the loss of probiotics during fermentation and then determined its hypoglycemic effect.

The effect of mulberry leaf powder and components on preventing obesity and regulating lipid metabolism were investigated in the present study. The mechanism of action was explored by examining the gut microbiota and lipid metabolism-related signaling pathways. As evidenced by the nutritional obesity rats model experiments, the middle concentration mulberry leaf powder (MLP) group (0.

Mulberry has been used as a functional food to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, it contains relatively high levels of fructose and glucose, which are not suitable for excess consumption by diabetic patients. In this study we used microbial fermentation to remove fructose and glucose from mulberry fruit, and then determined the effects on glycemia, the phosphatidylinositol 3-hydroxykinase/Akt (PI3K/Akt) and adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathways and their downstream effectors in T2DM mice.

A fusion gene was constructed by combining the cry1Ac gene of Bacillus thuringiensis strain 4.0718 with a neurotoxin gene, hwtx-1, which was synthesized chemically. In this process, an enterokinase recognition site sequence was inserted in frame between two genes, and the fusion gene, including the promoter and the terminator of the cry1Ac gene, was cloned into the shuttle vector pHT304 to obtain a new expression vector, pXL43.

Objective: To study the influence of biological characteristics on HCV/HIV co-infection, including HIV-1 sequence distance, HIV-1 viral load and CD4+ count.

Methods: HIV-1 sequence distance was calculated by Clustal W and Phylip software while HIV-1 viral load being tested by NASBA and CD4+ count was tested using Epics XL of Coulter. Significance was determined by t-test using SPSS 12.

Background: Co-infection of hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) is common in hemophiliacs and drug abusers. To assess the interaction between HIV and HCV disease progression, we examined 82 HIV/HCV co-infection patients and 62 HCV infection patients.

Methods: Liver function, pathological changes, infection duration, immune function and qualitative HCV-RNA and HCV antibody were compared retrospectively between the two groups of patients.
