Long-term consumption of high-carbohydrate feed may adversely affect intestinal health of fish; however, the underlying roles remain ambiguous. This study examined the effects of varying carbohydrate levels on the intestinal flora of common carp and assessed how microbial metabolites influence intestinal health. Two hundred seventy common carps were chosen and distributed randomly into three groups that fed diets containing starch at levels of 15% (low-carbohydrate diet [LCD]), 28% (medium-carbohydrate diet [MCD]), and 45% (high-carbohydrate diet [HCD]) for 60 days.

Polystyrene nanoplastics (PS NPs) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP) pollution pose significant risks to ecosystems and contribute to bioaccumulation in plants, yet uptake mechanisms and combined toxicity are poorly understood. We used fluorescent labeling and europium-doped PS NPs to reveal the absorption and translocation of NPs by dandelions and conducted a transcriptomic analysis under PS NPs and DBP exposure. The results indicated that NPs are transported horizontally through the intercellular gaps at the root tips and primary root-lateral root junctions via the apoplastic pathway, followed by longitudinal transport through the xylem vessels under the transpiration stream.

Antibiotics have been widely used in animal husbandry, which leads to high risk of food-borne transfer of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). The present study investigated the distribution of β-lactamase resistance genes (β-RGs) on dairy farm in the Songnen Plain of western Heilongjiang Province, China, to provide mechanistic insights into food-borne transmission of β-RGs through "meal-to-milk" chain under practically relevant circumstances. The results demonstrated that the abundance of β-RGs (91%) was much higher than that of other ARGs in the livestock farms.

The present study was conducted to investigate the dietary replacement of fish meal with poultry by-product meal (PBM) on the growth performance, immunity, antioxidant properties, and intestinal health of red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkia).
