Rationale: Traumatic cerebrospinal fluid leakage can cause complications such as meningitis, ventriculitis and brain abscess. It is necessary to formulate individualized treatment strategies, such as the use of antibiotics and skull base reconstruction methods. The application of nasal septum mucosal flap can significantly reduce the incidence of cerebrospinal fluid leakage.

The relationship between COVID-19 and ischemic stroke (IS) has attracted significant attention, yet the precise mechanism at the gene level remains unclear. This study aims to reveal potential biomarkers and drugs for COVID-19-related IS through bioinformatics methods. We collected two gene expression profiling datasets, GSE16561 and GSE213313, and selected GSE179879 and GSE196822 as validation sets for analysis.

For a long time, intercropping and rotation of leguminous with non-leguminous crops is widely used to reduce the application of nitrogen fertilizer and increase yield in agroecosystems. At present, most researchers considered that this management measure is helpful for reducing fertilizer consumption and increasing its efficiency, as it can improve nutrient supply of legumestonon-legumes, the spatial nutrient utilization efficiency by enhancing soil spatial heterogeneity, and improve soil structure and disease resistance. However, current theories cannot fully explain the positive effect of crop rotation and inter-cropping systems involving legumes.

The efficacy of phytoextraction for remediating heavy-metal contaminated soil depends on the bioavailability of the heavy metals and plant growth. In this study, we employed a synergistic system comprising water-soluble chitosan and the novel Cd mobilization bacteria, . K6 (hereafter K6), to enhance cadmium (Cd) extraction by Lolium perenne L.

Ischemic heart disease refers to the imbalance between the supply and demand of myocardial blood; it has various causes and results in a class of clinical diseases characterized by myocardial ischemia (MI). In recent years, the incidence of cardiovascular disease has become higher and higher, and the number of patients with ischemic heart disease has also increased year by year. Traditional treatment methods include drug therapy and surgical treatment, both of which have limitations.

Canker disease caused by the bacterium Lonsdalea populi is one of the most destructive diseases affecting poplar stems. However, the detailed stress response mechanisms of poplar have not been widely characterized. To explore the diverse regulatory RNA landscape and the function of key regulators in poplar subjected to L.

Burkitt lymphoma is a highly aggressive B-cell lymphoma and the fastest proliferating human malignant tumor. If the disease is found in the early stage, the patient could have a high possibility to be cured successfully, whereas the prognosis is poor in the late stage. Burkitt lymphoma can occur in children and adults, and it is categorized as local (Africa), sporadic, and immunodeficiency associated type.

Agricultural soils are important source and sink of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). However, little is known about the fate of ARGs in dryland soils, while its human exposure risks were seriously overlooked. Taking the northern Ningxia Plain as a case, this study explored the occurrence of ARGs and its relationship with mobile genetic elements (MGEs), pathogens, and environmental factors.

Trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TPS) genes play an active role in the trehalose metabolism pathway that regulates the responses of plants to diverse stresses. However, the functional identification, comparison, and conservatism of TPS genes in the responses of woody plants, especially poplars, to drought stress remain unclear. Here, the trehalose content of 84K (Populus alba × P.

Canker caused by Lonsdalea populi has seriously reduced the economic and ecological benefits of poplar. MicroRNAs play vital roles in the response of plants to biotic stress. However, there is little research about the regulatory mechanism of miRNAs among different tree varieties upon pathogen infection.

In recent years, heavy metal pollution has become a global environmental problem and poses a great threat to the health of people and ecosystems. Therefore, strategies for the effective remediation of Cd from contaminated soil are urgently needed. In this study, ryegrass was utilized as a remediation plant, and its remediation potential was enhanced through the application of Citric Acid (CA) in conjunction with Bacillus megaterium (B.

Background: This study aimed to analyze the clinical features of children with lobar pneumonia caused by (MP) infection, to explore the independent risk factors for bronchoscopic intervention in children with lobar pneumonia caused by MP infection. There is a lack of objective assessment tools to guide the use of bronchoscopy in clinical practice. For children with lobar pneumonia caused by MP infection, whether line shall be actively bronchoscope intervention therapy remains to be further defined.

The industrial processing of corn ( L.) generates by-products such as corn silk, straw peels, and straw core, which contribute to adverse environmental impacts. Our study aimed to investigate sustainable approaches for mitigating these effects by evaluating the hypoglycemic potential and mechanisms of ethyl acetate fractions derived from these corn derivatives.

We report the case of a 53-year-old man who was diagnosed with Holmes tremor and underwent deep brain stimulation of the ventro-intermediate thalamic nucleus and posterior subthalamic area. We assessed the patients' tremor with the Fahn-Tolosa-Marin Tremor Rating Scale at 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 months after deep brain stimulation. Deep brain stimulation relieved the patient's tremor during the 24-month follow-up period.

Drought is a principal environmental factor that affects the growth and development of plants. Accordingly, plants have evolved adaptive mechanisms to cope with adverse environmental conditions. One of the mechanisms is gene regulation mediated by microRNAs (miRNAs).

Introduction: Grassland-livestock balance is an important principle of sustainable development of grassland livestock production and grassland ecosystem health. Grassland degradation becomes more serious at global scales and especially at the area that is sensitive to climate change and human activities. Decreases in pasture biomass and shifts in plant community composition in degraded grasslands can largely affect grazing behaviors of livestock.

Article Synopsis
  • Multi-drug resistant bacteria are a major concern for antibiotic treatment, and LysECD7, an endolysin from phages, shows potential as a treatment option.
  • The researchers genetically fused LysECD7 with specific peptides to enhance its effectiveness, leading to the selection of the fusion protein Lys-Li5-MSI for further improvement.
  • Modifications to the selected fusion protein, including the addition of a fatty acid, resulted in an improved pharmacokinetic profile and greater therapeutic success in treating infections in mice.

Soil is recognized as an important reservoir of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). However, the effect of salinity on the antibiotic resistome in saline soils remains largely misunderstood. In this study, high-throughput qPCR was used to investigate the impact of low-variable salinity levels on the occurrence, health risks, driving factors, and assembly processes of the antibiotic resistome.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is associated with changed dietary habits and mainly linked with the gut microbiota dysbiosis, necroptosis of epithelial cells, and mucosal ulcerations. Liver dysfunction and abnormal level of liver metabolism indices were identified in UC patients, suggesting a close interaction between gut and liver disorders. Methionine-choline deficient diet (MCD) has been shown to induce persistent alterations of gut microbiota and metabolome during hepatitis.

Background And Aims: Perioperative intravenous (IV) infusions of lidocaine and esketamine reduce postoperative pain, but there are few studies on the quality of recovery and patients' emotional states postoperatively. We aimed to explore the effects of perioperative IV lidocaine and esketamine on the quality of recovery and emotional state after thyroidectomy.

Methods: In this randomised trial, 137 patients undergoing thyroidectomy were randomly assigned to three groups: a lidocaine group (Group L), an esketamine group (Group E) and a normal saline placebo group (Group C).
