Purpose: No consensus has been reached regarding the treatment of ipsilateral femoral neck fractures and femoral shaft fractures (FNF + FSF). This study discusses the stability and differences between multiple single- and dual-implant strategies in the treatment of FNF + FSF and aims to provide a theoretical reference for clinical applications.

Methods: Based on multi-sample finite element analysis, models of basicervical FNF (bFNFs Pauwels III) combined with three different FSFs (proximal (PFSF), middle (MFSF), and distal (DFSF)) were developed.

Understanding the interaction between nanomaterials and cellular structures is crucial for nanoparticle applications in biomedicine. We have identified a subtype of stress granules, called nanomaterial-provoked stress granules (NSGs), induced by gold nanorods (AuNRs). These NSGs differ from traditional SGs in their physical properties and biological functions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to create and validate nomograms to predict overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) linked to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 2,238 patients using multiple statistical models to identify significant risk factors and categorize patients into low, intermediate, and high-risk groups.
  • The effectiveness of the nomograms was demonstrated through metrics like the C index and decision curve analysis, showing their potential as valuable tools for clinicians in discussing patient prognoses over the next few years.

Article Synopsis
  • Ga-DOTA-Ibandronate (Ga-DOTA-IBA) PET/CT is a new imaging method for detecting bone metastases in breast cancer, and this study compares its effectiveness to the traditional Tc-MDP whole-body bone scan (WBBS).
  • In a study involving 45 women with breast cancer, Ga-DOTA-IBA PET/CT achieved a 100% detection rate for bone metastases, while Tc-MDP WBBS had a 95.6% detection rate.
  • Ga-DOTA-IBA PET/CT also identified a significantly higher number of metastasis lesions (546 total) compared to Tc-MDP WBBS, suggesting it may be a more sensitive technique for assessing bone metastases and guiding further

Article Synopsis
  • A 29-year-old man with Ewing sarcoma in his right ankle underwent two types of PET/CT scans (68 Ga-DOTA-IBA and 18 F-FDG), which indicated high activity in the primary tumor.
  • The scans also revealed early bone metastases in both the sixth thoracic vertebrae and the bilateral humerus.
  • 68 Ga-DOTA-IBA showed higher uptake in both the primary and metastatic sites, suggesting that 177 Lu-DOTA-IBA could be a potential therapy for treating metastatic or recurrent Ewing sarcoma.

Purpose: The Ga/Lu-FAP-2286 is a newly developed tumor imaging agent that shows potential for visualizing and treating tumor stroma. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of Ga-FAP-2286 PET/CT and F-FDG PET/CT in diagnosing advanced lung cancer.

Methods: In this prospective study, patients with lung cancer who underwent Ga-FAP-2286 and F-FDG PET/CT examinations between September 2022 and June 2023 were analyzed.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze articles on the diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcoma using positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) published in the last 13 years. The objective was to conduct a bibliometric analysis and identify the research hotspots and emerging trends.

Methods: Web of Science was used to search for articles on PET/CT diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcoma published from January 2010 to June 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • Two surgical techniques, the separate vertical wire (SVW) and improved candy box (CB), are proposed for treating inferior pole patellar fractures, but the proper wire placement remains unclear.
  • Finite element analysis was used to simulate different wire positions and loads, revealing that specific placements minimize stress and displacement on the patella and wire.
  • Findings suggest that the SVW technique benefits from positioning the wire near the fracture's end, while the CB technique is optimal with the wire near the upper posterior aspect of the patella, but further studies are needed for confirmation.

Article Synopsis
  • A 77-year-old woman was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a PET/CT scan using 68 Ga-labeled DOTA-ibandronic acid to assess for bone metastases.
  • The scan results indicated increased activity in the cervical vertebrae, suggesting the presence of osteoblastic metastasis.
  • Additionally, the breast cancer itself showed enhanced uptake of the 68 Ga-DOTA-IBA tracer.

This study aims to measure anatomical data of the capitate bone, develop an external fixator for treating late-stage osteonecrosis of lunate through Ilizarov technique, and evaluate its biomechanical performance. We selected eight wrist joint specimens to measure various parameters of the capitate bone, including its length, the distance from the junction of capitate head and body to the proximal end, as well as the width of its proximal head and distal body. Additionally, we measured these same indicators in 107 patients who had undergone wrist X-ray examination.

We aimed to explore the potential role of omega-3 (ω-3) fatty acids on acne vulgaris by modulating gut microbiota. We randomly divided the untreated acne patients into two groups with or without ω-3 fatty acids intervention for 12 weeks. The Sprague Dawley (SD) rats with acne model were given isotretinoin, ω-3 fatty acids or their combination respectively.

Background: Maintaining effective reduction and firm fixation in inferior pole patellar fractures is a highly challenging task. There are various treatment methods available; although tension-band wiring combined with cerclage wiring (TBWC) is the mainstream approach, its effectiveness is limited. Herein, we propose and evaluate a new technique called candy box (CB), based on separate vertical wiring (SVW), for the treatment of inferior pole patellar fractures.

Giant cell tumors of the bone (GCTB) are considered moderately malignant bone tumors. Denosumab, as a neoadjuvant therapy, provides new possibilities for treating GCTB. However, even after multiple studies and long-term clinical trials, there are limitations in the treatment process.

Objectives: Reconstruction plates (RPs) are commonly used in scapular neck fractures (SNFs): however, RPs have many defects. In this study, we evaluated a newly designed scapular neck anatomical locking compression plate (SNALCP).

Methods: An SNF finite element model (Miller-type IIB) was constructed.

Purpose: Taohong Siwu decoction (THSWD) is traditionally used to treat androgenic alopecia (AGA) in clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine. This study used a network pharmacology approach to elucidate the molecular mechanism governing the effect of THSWD on AGA.

Materials And Methods: The major active components and their corresponding targets of THSWD were screened.

Introduction: The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of acellular nerve grafts (ANGs) with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) or Schwann cells (SCs) on the treatment of sciatic nerve defect in rats.

Evidence Acquisition: Electronic databases were accessed to identify eligible targets. ANGs data were extracted for meta-analysis using Review Manager 5.

Article Synopsis
  • Reclaimed tidal flat soils often contain high salinity and heavy metal accumulation, which can pose health risks when consuming vegetables grown in these conditions.
  • Previous studies identified low-cadmium (Cd) tomato cultivars in non-saline soils and, to ensure their safety, research was conducted to assess their performance in saline soils with heavy metal pollutants.
  • Results indicated that cherry-type tomatoes accumulated more heavy metals like Cd, zinc (Zn), and copper (Cu) than common types, but both low-Cd cultivars showed low metal concentrations in their fruits, partly due to specific growth characteristics that reduced metal uptake.*
