The quick and convenient fabrication of tumor spheroids models has been pursued for clinical drug discovery and personalized therapy. Here, uniform three-dimensional (3D) tumor spheroids are quickly constructed by acoustically excited bubble arrays in a microfluidic chip and performed drug response testing . In detail, bubble oscillation excited by acoustic waves induces second radiation force, resulting in the cells rotating and aggregating into tumor spheroids, which obtain controllable sizes ranging from 30 to 300 μm.

Here, based on self-assembly of carbon quantum dots (CDs), an innovative method to prepare nanomaterials under the action of a metal catalyst was presented. CDs were synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method with citric acid (CA) as the carbon source, ethylenediamine (EDA) as the passivator and FeSO•7HO as the pre-catalyst. In the experiment, it was found that the nano-carbon films with a graphene-like structure were formed on the surface of the solution.

In this paper, we designed a new quantitative and qualitive detection method for biothiols by using fluorescence method and resonance light scattering (RLS) technique. Icariin is the major pharmacologically active compound of Herba epimedii which has been used as a tonic, aphrodisiac and an antirheumatic in traditional Chinese medicine. This study analysed the effect of icariin on the expression of Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) which plays an important role in regulation of the innate immune response. Stimulation of Ana-1 murine macrophages with icariin induced a significant dose-dependent expression of TLR9, and its mRNA expression which increased from 3 h post-treatment was approximately five-fold that of DMSO-treated cells.

A novel series of benzoazepin-2-ones were designed and synthesized targeting the PIF pocket of AGC protein kinases, among which a series of thioether-linked benzoazepin-2-ones were discovered to bind to the PIF pocket of 3-phosphoinositide-dependent kinase-1 (PDK1), and to displace the PIF peptide with an EC(50) values in the lower micromolar range. The structure-activity relationships (SARs) of the linker region, tail region, and distal region were explored to further optimize these novel binders which target the PIF pocket of PDK1. When tested in an in vitro PDK1 enzymatic assay using a peptide substrate, the benzodiazepin-2-ones increased the activity of the enzyme in a concentration-dependent fashion, indicating these compounds act as PDK1 allosteric activators.
