Microfluidic paper-based analytical device (μPAD) offers a simple and efficient platform for point-of-care monitoring, which can be beneficial for copper determination in livestock feed and manure. However, common cellulose paper has excellent hydrophilicity, causing μPAD is accompanied by poor mechanical properties, short service life, and low sensitivity. Here, a self-cleaning paper-based microfluidic biosensor for Cu determination was proposed to overcome the mentioned shortages in the application.

The metabolic activity in plants or fruits is associated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can help identify the different diseases. P-ethylphenol has been demonstrated as one of the most important VOCs released by the Phytophthora cactorum () infected strawberries. In this study, a bioelectronic nose based on a gas biosensor array and signal processing model was developed for the noninvasive diagnostics of the infected strawberries, which could overcome the limitations of the traditional spectral analysis methods.

RNA-cleaving DNAzyme is a very useful biomaterial for metal ions determination. However, parts of DNAzymes can be cleaved by several metal ions, which makes it difficult to distinguish the concentrations of different metal ions. A method was applied to determine the Cu(II) concentration by using electrochemical biosensors combined with a mathematical model.

In this study, bio-oil from the fast pyrolysis of renewable biomass was used as the raw material to synthesize bio-oil phenol formaldehyde (BPF) resin-a desirable resin for fabricating phenolic-based material. During the synthesis process, paraformaldehyde was used to achieve the requirement of high solid content and low viscosity. The properties of BPF resins were tested.

Hypoxic conditions are considerably different from aerobic and anaerobic conditions, and they are widely distributed in natural environments. Many pollutants, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), tend to accumulate in hypoxic environments. However, PAH biodegradation under hypoxic conditions is poorly understood compared with that under obligate aerobic and obligate anaerobic conditions.
