Cognitive impairment is a central characteristic of schizophrenia. Executive functioning (EF) impairments are often seen in mental disorders, particularly schizophrenia, where they relate to adverse outcomes. As a heterogeneous construct, how specifically each dimension of EF to characterize the diagnostic and prognostic aspects of schizophrenia remains opaque.

Tuberculosis has posed a serious threat to human health. It is imperative to investigate the geographic prevalence of tuberculosis and medication resistance, as this information is essential for informing strategies for its prevention and treatment. Drug resistance was identified using a proportion method.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers explored the best management strategies for patients with aortic dissection involving the common carotid artery (CCA) and false-lumen thrombus by comparing two surgical methods: extra-thoracic carotid artery replacement (CAR) and reconstruction in situ (RIS).
  • The study included 68 patients over nearly nine years, finding that while operative mortality was low (7.4%) and surgical complications were similar between the two groups, CAR significantly reduced the risk of postoperative neurological deficits compared to RIS.
  • After an average follow-up of 40 months, survival rates were high for both groups, but no significant difference was seen between CAR and RIS regarding long-term survival or thrombus reabsorption.

Background: Cognitive deficits in patients with schizophrenia have drawn widespread attention. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) can modulate cognitive processes by altering neuronal excitability. Previous studies have found that interim testing can enhance spatial route learning and memory in patients with schizophrenia.

Lung metastasis is the major cause of death in patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) represent the M2-like phenotype with potent immunosuppressive activity, and play a pro-tumor role in TNBC lung metastasis. Sohlh2 belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor family.

Background: Stroke is a significant medical condition, and blood pressure stands out as the most prevalent treatable risk factor associated with it. Researches link blood pressure variability (BPV) with stroke; however, the specific relationship between with the outcomes of stroke patients remains unclear. As blood pressure variability and mean blood pressure are interrelated, it remains uncertain whether BPV adds additional information to understanding the outcome of acute stroke patients.

Background: We aimed to briefly describe the use of total arch replacement with frozen elephant trunk in our center's 12-year treatment of acute type A dissection and the early postoperative results. We summarized the practical experience of this procedure in our center and performed regression analyses to find the independent risk factors for major complications.

Methods: Consecutive patients with acute type A dissection having surgical total arch replacement with the implantation of a frozen elephant trunk were collected from January 2010 to December 2021 and were included in the analysis.

Aims: The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence, influencing factors, and clinical characteristics of cognitive impairment in elderly patients with chronic schizophrenia.

Materials And Methods: A total of 264 elderly patients with chronic schizophrenia and 156 normal controls were enrolled in the current study. The Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) was used to assess their overall cognitive function, the Positive And Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) was used to assess their psychotic symptoms, the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) was used to assess their depressive symptoms, while Activity of Daily Living Scale (ADL) was used to assess their daily living ability.

Background: Vein graft occlusion is deemed a major challenge in coronary artery bypass grafting. Previous studies implied that the no-touch technique for vein graft harvesting could reduce occlusion rate compared with the conventional approach; however, evidence on the clinical benefit and generalizability of the no-touch technique is scare.

Methods: From April 2017 to June 2019, we randomly assigned 2655 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting at 7 hospitals in a 1:1 ratio to receive no-touch technique or conventional approach for vein harvesting.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with severe mental illnesses (SMI) showed a high risk of COVID-19 infection and their knowledge and attitudes towards prevention were studied in five psychiatric hospitals in Gansu province, China.
  • A survey of 925 patients revealed that 84.8% had positive attitudes towards preventive measures, with higher positivity linked to being married and having a higher education level.
  • Despite receiving most COVID-19 information from public media and clinicians, the overall public health education provided to SMI patients was deemed inadequate, highlighting a need for improved communication to mitigate infection risks.
