Background: Deciphering the mechanisms of meiosis has important implications for potential applications in plant breeding programmes and species evolution. However, the process of meiosis is poorly understood in carnation, which is famous for its cut flowers.

Results: We report that Dianthus caryophyllus parallel spindle 1 (DcPS1) regulates omission of second division like a (OSDLa) during pollen development and 2n gamete production in carnation meiosis.

Adolescence is a period that exhibits both vulnerability and adaptation to environmental stimulus. This study explored the co-existence effect of environmental enrichment (EE) and restraint stress (RS) on innate anxiety and depressive-like behavior in adolescent mice. Male ICR mice were treated with daily EE and RS (4 h/d or 8 h/d) for 2 or 4 weeks from early adolescence (postnatal day 30) and emotional behaviors were evaluated 24 h after the end of treatment.

Objective: Asthma is a chronic immune disease that has become a serious public health problem. The currently available medications are not ideal because of their limitations and side effects; hence, new target proteins and signaling cascades for precise and safe therapy treatment are needed. This work established an ovalbumin-induced asthma rat model and treated it with total flavonoid extract from the Xinjiang chamomile.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent research indicates that SNPs in miRNA promoters can affect disease susceptibility, specifically breast cancer.
  • The study focused on two SNPs, rs10877887 and rs13293512, assessing their association with breast cancer risk using DNA samples from 301 patients and 310 controls.
  • Findings revealed that the rs13293512 CC genotype is linked to a higher breast cancer risk, particularly in patients with negative hormone receptors and early-stage cancer, suggesting it may serve as a potential biomarker for breast cancer in Chinese women.
