Glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1) is responsible for basal glucose uptake and is expressed in most tissues under normal conditions. GLUT1 mutations can cause early-onset absence epilepsy and myoclonus dystonia syndrome (MDS), with MDS potentially lethal.
