Objective: Both 5:2 IF diet (intermittent fasting) and daily caloric restriction eating had been suggested for management of MAFLD (Metabolic-Associated Fatty Liver Disease), this study aimed to evaluate the effects of 5:2 IF diet on body weight and metabolic parameters in adults with MAFLD, in comparison to daily caloric restriction eating.

Methods: This single-center, double-blind, prospective, randomized controlled trial included 60 patients with MAFLD, who were administered either a 5:2 IF diet limited calories consumed for 2 days each week with no restrictions on the remaining 5 (Group 5:2 IF diet) or a daily calorie restriction eating (Group daily calorie restriction). Objective: To investigate the effects of WAA combined with fluoxetine in the clinical treatment of post-stroke depression (PSD) .

Methods: In this randomized, controlled and single-blind trial, 105 PSD patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into three equal groups: Thin wrist-ankle acupuncture (WAA) group (Thin WAA needle + Fluoxetine), Thick WAA group (Thick WAA needle + Fluoxetine), and Sham WAA group (sham WAA needle + Fluoxetine). In this trial, the primary outcome was Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), while the secondary outcomes included Zung self-rating depression scale (SDS) and World Health Organization Quality of Life BREF (QQL).

Cationic poly(amidoamine) dendrimers induced cyto-protective autophagy in hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers are proposed as one of the most promising nanomaterials for biomedical applications because of their unique tree-like structure, monodispersity and tunable properties. In this study, we found that PAMAM dendrimers could induce the formation of autophagosomes and the conversion of microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) in hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells, while the inhibition of the Akt/mTOR and activation of the Erk 1/2 signaling pathways were involved in autophagy-induced by PAMAM dendrimers. We also investigated the suppression of autophagy with the obviously enhanced cytotoxicity of PAMAM dendrimers.

Suppression of autophagy enhanced growth inhibition and apoptosis of interferon-β in human glioma cells.

Interferon-beta (IFN-β) is a cytokine with anti-viral, anti-proliferative, and immunomodulatory effects. In this study, we investigated the effects of IFN-β on the induction of autophagy and the relationships among autophagy, growth inhibition, and apoptosis induced by IFN-β in human glioma cells. We found that IFN-β induced autophagosome formation and conversion of microtubule associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) protein, whereas it inhibited cell growth through caspase-dependent cell apoptosis.
