Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) has been demonstrated to promote the development of liver fibrosis, but its role in intestinal fibrosis is unknown. Macrophage-to-myofibroblast transition (MMT) is an important pathway contributing to fibrosis diseases. However, whether MMT cells, characterized by co-expressing both macrophage (CD68 or F4/80) and myofibroblast (α-SMA) markers, occurs in intestinal fibrosis remain to be addressed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in lesions that destroy tissue and spinal tracts, leading to deficits in locomotor and autonomic function. We have previously shown that after SCI, surviving motoneurons innervating hindlimb muscles exhibit extensive dendritic atrophy, which can be attenuated by treadmill training or treatment with gonadal hormones post-injury. We have also shown that following SCI, both exercise and treatment with gonadal hormones improve urinary function.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of low-frequency pulse electrical stimulation plus exercise therapy on nerve function recovery in patients with radial nerve palsy after humerus shaft fracture.
Methods: A total of 110 patients with humerus shaft fracture and radial nerve injury admitted to our hospital from January 2017 to December 2021 were recruited. They were randomized to receive either conventional exercise therapy (control group) or conventional exercise therapy plus low-frequency pulse electrical stimulation (study group) according to the random number table method, with 55 cases in each.
Unsuccessful axonal regeneration in transected spinal cord injury (SCI) is mainly attributed to shortage of growth factors, inhibitory glial scar, and low intrinsic regenerating capacity of severely injured neurons. Previously, we constructed an axonal growth permissive pathway in a thoracic hemisected injury by transplantation of Schwann cells overexpressing glial-cell-derived neurotrophic factor (SCs-GDNF) into the lesion gap as well as the caudal cord and proved that this novel permissive bridge promoted the regeneration of descending propriospinal tract (dPST) axons across and beyond the lesion. In the current study, we subjected rats to complete thoracic (T11) spinal cord transections and examined whether these combinatorial treatments can support dPST axons' regeneration beyond the transected injury.

Methods: A total of 88 patients with humeral condyle fracture and radial nerve injury admitted to our hospital from April 2019 to January 2022 were randomly divided into a combined group and a control group, with 44 patients in each group. The patients in the combined group received low-frequency pulse electrical stimulation combined with target-oriented rehabilitation therapy, while those in the control group received low-frequency pulse electrical stimulation therapy.

Methods: This study analyzed patients with suspicious unilateral PTC who were enrolled in a university hospital between 2016 and 2019 in Zhejiang, China. Using logistic regression, the study examined the factors associated with bilateral PTC and LLNM in demographic data, anthropometric measurements, lifestyle factors, medical history, preoperative diagnostic tests, and histopathological factors.
The activation of toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) has been reported to attenuate astrocytes injury in central nervous system, but its effect on enteric glial cells (EGCs) remains unknown. Here, we confirmed that the residence of EGCs was regulated by TLR3 agonist (polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid, PIC) or TLR3/dsRNA complex inhibitor in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced mice. In vitro, TLR3 signaling prevented apoptosis in EGCs and drove the secretion of EGCs-derived glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor, 15-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid and S-nitrosoglutathione.

Methods: Next-generation sequencing (NGS) was used to examine changes in circRNA expression levels following Exo treatment.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) often leads to neuronal loss, axonal degeneration, and behavioral dysfunction. We recently show that reprogramming of NG2 glia produces new neurons, reduces glial scaring, and ultimately leads to improved function after SCI. By examining endogenous neurons, we here unexpectedly uncover that NG2 glia reprogramming also induces robust axonal regeneration of the corticospinal tract and serotonergic neurons.

Photoperiod is a key inducer which plays an important role in gene expression regulation by affecting epigenetic modification. However, fewer studies have confirmed how photoperiod induces epigenetic modifications of the gene.
