This study was performed to investigate the genetic association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the interleukin-16 (IL-16) gene with the risk of Parkinson's disease (PD) in a Chinese Han population. Genotyping for the rs11556218 T/G, rs1131445 T/C and rs4072111 C/T polymorphisms of IL-16 was performed using the PCR-RFLP method in 405 patients with PD and 405 healthy matched individuals. Statistically significant difference for rs4072111 could be observed in both additive model (TC vs.

Design: Cohort study.
Setting: 706 UK family practices in the Clinical Practice Research Datalink from 2002 to 2017.
Background: Dysregulation of alternative splicing (AS) is a critical signature of cancer. However, the regulatory mechanisms of cancer-specific AS events, especially the impact of DNA methylation, are poorly understood.
Methods: By using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) SpliceSeq and TCGA data for ten solid tumor types, association analysis was performed to characterize the potential link between cancer-specific AS and DNA methylation.
To identify methylation-associated genes in the carcinogenesis of colorectal cancer (CRC). Genome-wide patterns of DNA methylation and gene expression in CRC tissues and adjacent normal tissues were determined and further validated in The Cancer Genome Atlas data and Chinese CRC patients, respectively. Gene overexpression and knockdown cells were constructed to investigate their biological roles in CRC.

Methods: The expression of miR-34a, Axl, Gas6 and related downstream signaling proteins in the EGFR mutant NSCLC cell lines were determined by qRT-PCR and Western blot; PC9-Gef-miR-34a and HCC827-Gef-miR-34a cells were established by transfecting the parent cells with a miR-34a overexpressing virus, then the expression of Axl, Gas6 and the downstream channel-related proteins were also compared in PC9-Gef-miR-34a and HCC827-Gef-miR-34a and drug-resistant strains. The survival rate of the cells were measured by CCK8 assay.
Long noncoding RNA CRNDE (CRNDE) recently emerged as a carcinogenic promoter in various cancers including medulloblastoma. However, the functions and molecular mechanisms of CRNDE to the acquired drug resistance of medulloblastoma are still unclear. The transcript levels of CRNDE were examined in four medulloblastoma cell lines exposed to cisplatin treatment, and IC values were calculated.

Objectives: This study is designed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of sinomenine (Sin) in stress load-induced heart failure in mice.
Methods: We used aortic constriction (AB) to cause pressure overload as our heart failure model. Sin was received in mice as the treatment group.
This study investigated the effect of phytic acid and lysozyme on the microbial composition and quality of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) fillets stored at 4 °C. The control, 0.5 mg/mL lysozyme-treated fillets (T1), 0.

However, the upstream modulating mode and downstream molecular mechanism of FOXC1 in metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC) remain unclear. Herein we describe a systematic analysis of FOXC1 expression and prognosis in CRC performed on our clinical data and public databases, which indicated that FOXC1 upregulation in CRC samples was significantly associated with poor prognosis.

Increasing hospital admissions for pneumonia have been reported recently but it is not known whether pneumonia incidence rates have increased in the community. To determine whether incidence rates of pneumonia increased in primary care in the United Kingdom from 2002 to 2017, an open cohort study was conducted using electronic health records from the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink. Clinically diagnosed pneumonia, influenza pneumonia, pleural infection and clinically suspected pneumonia, defined as chest infection treated with antibiotics, were evaluated.

P. psychrophila exhibited the strongest proteolytic activity, which resulted in the highest concentrations of TCA-soluble peptides and TVB-N.

In this study, 20 body-size-related genes for which duplication, mutation, or deficiency can cause body size change in mammals were chosen to preliminarily investigate the evolutionary mechanisms underlying the dramatic body size variation in cetaceans.
Results: We successfully sequenced 20 body-size-related genes in six representative species of cetaceans.
Large-conductance calcium-activated potassium (BK) channels are ubiquitously expressed in most cell types where they regulate many cellular, organ, and organismal functions. Although BK currents have been recorded specifically in activated murine and human microglia, it is not yet clear whether and how the function of this channel is related to microglia activation. Here, using patch-clamping, Griess reaction, ELISA, immunocytochemistry, and immunoblotting approaches, we show that specific inhibition of the BK channel with paxilline (10 μm) or siRNA-mediated knockdown of its expression significantly suppresses lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced (100 ng/ml) BV-2 and primary mouse microglial cell activation.

Methods: Data were analysed for 102 general practices in England that contributed data to the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) from 2014 to 2017. Prescriptions for all ABs and for broad-spectrum β-lactam ABs were evaluated.
Purpose: To identify the effectiveness and feasibility of blindfold training on preventing pediatric psychological behavior disorders during the anesthesia recovery period.
Design: This study investigated the effect of blindfold training through the assessment of anxiety, delirium, and pain in children during the anesthesia recovery period.
Methods: This study was a prospective, randomized, controlled trial.
This study jointly conducted a field investigation and thermodynamic model simulation in three nonferrous metal smelters (NFMS) to identify sulfur oxides (SOX) formation, transformation, and emissions in the flue gas. Most of SOX was released as sulfur dioxides (SO) at the outlet of the furnace with the molar proportion of sulfur trioxides (SO) of 1.0-4.

However, a less considered risk is that many pesticides can be metabolized and transferred to offspring as new toxicants. In this study, we used zebrafish to evaluate the maternal transfer risk of fipronil (FIP), which is a great threat to aquatic organisms with toxic metabolite formation.

In this study, the cycloaddition reactions are divided into classes considering endo-cycloaddition, exo-cycloaddition and the size of the transition states; the intramolecular H-shift reactions are divided into classes depending upon the ring size of the transition states and the type of C-H bonds from which the hydrogen atom is transferred; the concerted elimination reactions are divided into classes according to the type of H-CCOO bond that is broken. All geometry optimizations are performed at the B3LYP/6-31G(2df,p) level.

This study demonstrated a series of novel synthetic bifunctional enzyme complex of Firefly luciferase (Fluc) and Luciferin-regenerating enzyme (LRE).
