Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a significant global health concern, ranking among the top five causes of disability-adjusted life-years (DALY) in 190 countries and territories. Neutrophils, key players in the innate immune system, combat infections by releasing neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) composed of DNA, histones, elastase, myeloperoxidase, and antimicrobial peptides. This paper explores the relationship between NETs and cardiovascular diseases, focusing on conditions such as heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, atrial fibrillation, and ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Nocturnal dexmedetomidine alleviates post-intensive care syndrome following cardiac surgery: a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial.

Background: Dexmedetomidine is a sedative agent that may have the potential to reduce the risk of post-intensive care syndrome (PICS). This study aimed to establish whether prophylactic nocturnal dexmedetomidine safely reduces postoperative PICS incidence and to develop an easy-to-use model for predicting the risk of PICS following cardiac surgery.

Methods: This was a single-center, double-blind, randomized, prospective, placebo-controlled trial.

Background: Long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) have been reported to critically regulate gastric cancer (GC). Recently, it was reported that LBX2 antisense RNA 1 (LBX2-AS1) is abnormally expressed in GC. However, the role of LBX2-AS1 in the malignancy of GC is worth further discussion.
