Knowledge gaps about how the ocean melts Antarctica's ice shelves, borne from a lack of observations, lead to large uncertainties in sea level predictions. Using high-resolution maps of the underside of Dotson Ice Shelf, West Antarctica, we reveal the imprint that ice shelf basal melting leaves on the ice. Convection and intermittent warm water intrusions form widespread terraced features through slow melting in quiescent areas, while shear-driven turbulence rapidly melts smooth, eroded topographies in outflow areas, as well as enigmatic teardrop-shaped indentations that result from boundary-layer flow rotation.

Several cellular processes, including the recovery of misfolded proteins, the folding of polypeptide chains, transit of polypeptides across the membrane, construction and disassembly of protein complexes, and modulation of protein control, are carried out by DnaJ homolog subfamily A member 1 (DNAJA1), which belongs to the DnaJ heat-shock protein family. In this study, a novel taxol-producing endophytic fungus, strain F3, was isolated from the fruits of Taxus cuspidata and identified as Alternaria alternata according to its macroscopic and microscopic traits and sequence analysis of internal transcribed spacer (ITS). The presence of taxol was detected by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and confirmed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESI-MS/MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The fermentation parameters of strain F3 were then optimized for high taxol production.

Chemiluminescence (CL) probes that possess near-infrared (NIR) emission are highly desirable for in vivo imaging due to their deeper tissue penetration ability and intrinsically high sensitivity. The linkage mechanisms and optimization strategies between land use transition and eco-environmental effects that occur in the production-living-ecological space of karst mountain areas remain under-explored in the current literature. Based on county data collected in Longlin Multinational Autonomous County of Guangxi, which is located in the rocky desertification area of Yunnan, Guangxi, and Guizhou, this study contributes a county-level analysis on land use transition and eco-environmental effects by addressing two research questions: (1) Which factors of land use transition are related to the eco-environmental effects of production-living-ecological space? (2) What are the key land allocation mechanisms behind the interventions of local rocky desertification regulation policies? We conducted two sets of analyses to answer these two questions: quantitative analyses of the spatial and temporal evolution between land use transition, rocky desertification, and its eco-environmental effects, and qualitative analyses of policy interventions on production-living-ecological land development and rocky desertification management. The findings show that the occurrence of rocky desertification accompanied by unreasonable land use structure transition and its important factor is caused by ecological land being restricted by production-living land.

Considerable progress has been made in the development of anticancer agents over the past few decades, and a lot of new anticancer agents from natural and synthetic sources have been produced. Among heterocyclic compounds, pyrimidine-fused bicyclic heterocycles possess a variety of biological activities such as anticancer, antiviral, etc. To date, 147 pyrimidine-fused bicyclic heterocycles have been approved for clinical assessment or are currently being used in clinic, 57 of which have been approved by FDA for clinical treatment of various diseases, and 22 of them are being used in the clinic for the treatment of different cancers.
