Article Synopsis
  • Magnetic bead-assisted extraction technology was developed for analyzing 13 bile acid profiles in human serum, aiming to automate mass spectrometry processes.
  • A validated method involving liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) demonstrated strong analytical performance and stability, with recovery rates for bile acids within acceptable limits.
  • The new method showed comparable results to traditional protein precipitation methods and holds promise for routine clinical diagnosis of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP).

Background: Steroid hormones (SH) during pregnancy are associated with the development of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Early and mid-Down syndrome screening is used to assess the risk of Down syndrome in the fetus. It is unclear whether changes in SH during this period can be used as an early predictor of GDM.

Background: Impaired bile acid (BA) metabolism has been associated with the progression of type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, the contribution of BAs to the pathogenesis of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) remains unclear. This study was aimed at investigating the association of serum BAs with different diabetes types and analyzing its correlation with main clinical and laboratory parameters.

Objective: To investigate the effect of magnolol on proliferation and apoptosis of HL-60 cells and its mechanism.

Methods: MTT assay was used to measure the proliferation of HL-60 cells after treatment with different concentration of magnolol (5, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 µg/ml). The morphological changes of HL-60 cells were examined by light microscopy, and DAPI staining was performed to observe the nuclear morphology of HL-60 cells.

Oridonin, obtained from the traditional Chinese herbal medicine rabdosia rubescens, exerts potent antitumor activities in cancer cells. Valproic acid (VPA), as a potent histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACI), also plays an important role in inhibition of proliferation of tumor cells. However, there are no reports so far on the cooperation between oridonin and VPA for anti-leukemic effect.

Ecotropic virus integration site-1 (EVI-1) gene, locus on chromosome 3 (3q26.2) in the human genome, was first found in the AKXD strain of mice, in a model of retrovirus-induced acute myeloid leukemia (AML) established twenty years ago. Since then, EVI-1 was regarded as one of the most invasive proto-oncogenes in human leukemia.
