Objective: To evaluate the response and safety of combining acupuncture based on the Dunhuang "Moxibustion Classic" with carbamazepine in the treatment of neuropathic tinnitus.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 105 patients with neuropathic tinnitus treated at The First People's Hospital of Lanzhou City from January 2019 to February 2023. Of these, 49 patients received acupuncture based on the Dunhuang "Moxibustion Classic" (research group), while 56 patients received conventional acupuncture (control group).

In the present study, SD rat models for in vivo study (normal and fatty liver model group) and hepatocytes for in vitro study (normal and abnormal lipid metabolism model group) were established to determine the effects of DBP on liver function and discover the possible mechanisms. A novel pyridine derivative, 3,5-bis-(1-methyl-pyrrolidin-2-yl)-pyridine, and a pair of diastereomers of 1,1'-dimethyl-[2,3']bipyrrolidinyl were isolated from the root of Nicotiana tabacum plants and identified as novel alkaloids by GC-MS analysis. The structures of these new alkaloids were confirmed by total synthesis. The affinities of these novel alkaloids, and other structurally related compounds for alpha4beta2*, alpha7* neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), and for nAChRs mediating nicotine-evoked dopamine release from rat striatum were also assessed.

Five dipyridyl isomers, 2,2'-, 2,3'-, 2,4'-, 3,3'-, and 4,4'-dipyridyl, are products resulting from the pyrolytic degradation of tobacco products and degradation of the herbicide paraquat, and therefore may be present in the environment. In this article, the toxicological properties of these dipyridyl isomers in humans and animals are reviewed. Epidemiological studies suggest that cancerous skin lesions in workers involved in the manufacturing of paraquat may be associated with exposure to dipyridyl compounds.
