Preparation of high-performance thermosetting resins via bio-based resources is important for the development of a sustainable world. In this work, we proposed the introduction of cyanide structure groups into the molecular structure of epoxy resins to give them excellent heat resistance. A eugenol-based epoxy-phthalonitrile (EEPN) resin was synthesized by a two-step process using the bio-based renewable resource of eugenol, and a series of EEPN/Epoxide resin (E51) blend resins with different EEPN contents were prepared.

Ternary nonfullerene all-small-molecule organic solar cells (NFSM-OSCs) were developed by incorporating a nonfullerene acceptor (IDIC) and two structurally similar small molecular donors (SM and SM-Cl), where SM-Cl is a novel small molecular donor derived from the reported molecular donor SM. When doping 10% SM-Cl in the SM:IDIC binary system, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the ternary solar cell was dramatically increased from 9.39 to 10.

Four pyrene-functionalized polyacetylenes were designed and prepared through a typical post-polymerization modification route, which is the highly efficient reaction between activated ester and primary anime groups. The chemical structures of the resultant polymers were characterized with multiple spectroscopic techniques and the data indicated the successful functionalization of the polyacetylenes. The introduction of the pyrene moieties into the polymer structure allowed us to investigate the interactions between the polymer backbone and side chains.

A series of nonplanar tetraphenylethene (TPE)-hexaphenylbenzene (HPB) adducts was designed and synthesized by Diels-Alder reaction of the acetylene precursors and tetraphenylcyclopentadienone. All of the adducts showed aggregation-induced emission features. The twisting amplitude and steric hindrance of the TPE and HPB units were found to play a crucial role in their fluorescence behaviors in the aggregated state.
