Interleukin-12 (IL-12) regulates the differentiation of CD4 T lymphocytes into Th1 cells by binding to its receptor, thereby promoting cellular immunity. This study characterized IL-12 and its receptor β2 (IL-12Rβ2) in flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) and investigated their interaction, effects on T cell proliferation and differentiation, and the adjuvant effects of IL-12. The recombinant IL-12 was successfully expressed, and the IL-12Rβ2 antibody was confirmed to specifically recognize IL-12Rβ2.

Milky white urine is most commonly due to chyluria secondary to filariasis, though other causes of milky white urine and other etiologies of chyluria must be considered. Evaluation of a 3-year-old girl with milky white urine demonstrated chyluria, but testing for filariasis was negative despite a history of travel to an endemic region. Magnetic resonance lymphangiography demonstrated a congenital lymphatic malformation, which was repaired following this minimally invasive imaging technique.

Article Synopsis
  • Previous research primarily focused on cognitive control in bilinguals but not on specific brain regions that process phonological information during language production.
  • Using representational similarity analysis, the study examined phonological representations in both native and second languages within single and mixed-language contexts.
  • Findings revealed that bilinguals show more brain activation and worse performance in mixed contexts, with dominant language (L1) phonological representations prominently found in language processing areas during L2 production, supporting the nonselective processing hypothesis.

Previous studies have shown that the visual word form area (VWFA) has structural and intrinsic functional connectivity with both language and attention networks. Nevertheless, it is still unclear how the functional connectivity pattern of the VWFA is regulated by processing demands induced by experimental tasks, and whether processing demands differentially regulate the posterior (VWFA-1) and anterior (VWFA-2) subregions of the VWFA. To address these questions, the present study adopted two tasks varying in processing demands (i.

Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) is a prominent tool for investigating functional deficits in stroke patients. However, the extent to which the hemodynamic lags (LAG) and the intrinsic cerebrovascular reactivity (iCVR) may affect the rs-fMRI metrics in different scales needs to be clarified for ischemic stroke. In this study, 73 ischemic stroke patients and 74 healthy controls (HC) were recruited to investigate how the correction of the LAG and/or iCVR would influence resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) metrics of three different spatial scales (local-scale, meso-scale and global-scale) in ischemic stroke.

Article Synopsis
  • A study involving 2860 mother-child pairs examined how prenatal exposure to certain antibiotics, specifically Tetracycline and Ofloxacin, may influence the development of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) symptoms in children by analyzing urinary concentrations during pregnancy.
  • The research found that maternal exposure to Tetracycline throughout pregnancy significantly elevated the risk of ASD symptoms, particularly during the first and third trimesters in boys, while Ofloxacin exposure during the first trimester posed increased risk for girls.
  • No clear dose-dependent relationship was established, indicating that it was the presence of these antibiotics during specific pregnancy periods that correlated with heightened ASD symptoms rather than the amount of exposure.

Lactic acid (LA) serves as a widely used platform compound and has received significant attention as a raw material for synthesis of biodegradable polylactic acid. Currently, LA is mainly produced through microbial fermentation, but its high costs undermine its competitive advantage against other materials, necessitating the development of novel production routes. Methanol bioconversion represents an emerging low-carbon circular economy, where LA could become an outstanding representative product.
