Ciprofloxacin (CIP) is a commonly used antibiotic, but its abuse may cause bacterial resistance, posing a high risk to the environment and human health. Herein, based on the molecular imprinting technology, this study proposed a ratiometric fluorescence sensor employing the "post-doping" strategy, which aims to be rapid, selective, and visually easy-to-use for CIP detection to address antibiotic residues and environmental risks. Specifically, by exploiting the "antenna effect" of lanthanide metal ions (Ln), terbium (III) (Tb) chosen as a fluorescence-assisted functional monomer as well as the red emitting CdTe quantum dots (QDs) as the internal reference signal were introduced into multi-emission Tb-CdTe@SiO@MIPs (TbMIPs).

Pulpotomy, which belongs to vital pulp therapy, has become a strategy for managing pulpitis in recent decades. This minimally invasive treatment reflects the recognition of preserving healthy dental pulp and optimizing long-term patient-centered outcomes. Pulpotomy is categorized into partial pulpotomy (PP), the removal of a partial segment of the coronal pulp tissue, and full pulpotomy (FP), the removal of whole coronal pulp, which is followed by applying the biomaterials onto the remaining pulp tissue and ultimately restoring the tooth.

Litter decomposition is essential for nutrient and chemical cycling in terrestrial ecosystems. Previous research on litter decomposition has often underestimated its impact on soil nutrient dynamics and allelopathy. To address this gap, we conducted a comprehensive study involving both field and greenhouse experiments to examine the decomposition and allelopathic effects of the invasive L.

In our previous study, we identified a Short Interspersed Nuclear Element Retrotransposon Insertion Polymorphism (SINE-RIP) within the 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of the Phospholipase A2 Group XVI (PLA2G16) gene, which is essential in lipid metabolism. In this study, we confirmed the presence of this 280 bp SINE insertion and examined its distribution across ten distinct pig breeds using PCR and sequencing. Subsequently, RT-PCR was employed to determine its potential for co-transcription.

Endothelial dysfunction, characterized by a decline in endothelial physiological functions, is a significant aspect of cardiovascular aging, contributing notably to arterial stiffness, atherosclerosis, and hypertension. Transient receptor potential channel V4 (TRPV4), a key member of Ca-permeable channels, plays a crucial role in maintaining vascular functions. However, the role and mechanisms of TRPV4 in aging-related endothelial dysfunction remain incompletely understood.

Background: The effect of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) on the efficacy of nucleoside analogues (NAs) in antiviral therapy for patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) remains controversial.

Aim: To investigate the influence of NAFLD on virological response in CHB patients undergoing NAs treatment.

Methods: Logistic regression analysis was conducted on a cohort of 465 CHB patients from two hospitals to determine whether NAFLD was a risk factor for adverse reactions to NAs.

Background: Non-clear cell renal cell carcinoma (nccRCC) represents a heterogeneous group of malignancies with substantial differences in morphology, genetic profiles, clinical behavior, and prognosis. Optimal treatment for nccRCC remains unclear, largely extrapolated from evidence available for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). This study aimed to compare the efficacy of current mainstream drug treatments for nccRCC to provide clinical treatment guidance for advanced cases.

Article Synopsis
  • Root caries pose a significant challenge in dentistry, requiring effective noninvasive preventive strategies due to poor outcomes of current restorative treatments.
  • Researchers developed PAMAM-C11, a modified peptide that binds to hydroxyapatite to prevent demineralization in caries lesions and combat periodontal destruction, enhancing mineralization and resisting washout.
  • PAMAM-C11 also protects against enzymatic breakdown in dentin, supports the growth of important stem cells for periodontal repair, and showed promising results in an in vivo rat model, suggesting its potential for clinical use in preventing root caries.

Apical microsurgery is accurate and minimally invasive, produces few complications, and has a success rate of more than 90%. However, due to the lack of awareness and understanding of apical microsurgery by dental general practitioners and even endodontists, many clinical problems remain to be overcome. The consensus has gathered well-known domestic experts to hold a series of special discussions and reached the consensus.

  • TRPC1 is a ion channel linked to cardiovascular issues, with increased expression observed in both treated vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and aortas of hypertensive mice.
  • Lack of TRPC1 in VSMCs significantly reduces AngII-induced effects like vasoconstriction, hypertension, and heart changes, indicating its crucial role in these processes.
  • The study identifies the EZH2-TRPC1-MEK/ERK pathway as a significant contributor to hypertension, suggesting that targeting TRPC1 or EZH2 could be effective in treating high blood pressure and related cardiovascular problems.

In male animals, spermatogonia in testes differentiate into sperm, one of the most diverse cell types across species. Despite the evolutionary retention of key genes essential for spermatogenesis, the extent of their conservation remains unclear. To explore the genetic basis of spermatogenesis under strong selective pressure, we compare single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) datasets from the testes of humans, mice, and fruit flies.

Levels of tissue oxygenation and collagen regeneration are critical indicators in the early evaluation of wound healing. Traditionally, these factors have been assessed using separate instruments and different methodologies. Here, we adopt the spatially averaged phosphorescence lifetime approach using Re-diimine complexes (Re-probe) to enable simultaneous quantification of these two critical factors in healing wounds.

Doxorubicin (Dox) is a widely used antineoplastics although its clinical usage is greatly limited by its cardiotoxicity. Several studies have depicted an essential role for dampened mitophagy and mitochondrial injury in Dox cardiotoxicity. However, preventative measure to alleviate Dox-evoked cardiotoxicity via targeting mitophagy and mitochondrial integrity remains elusive.

Background: Normal weight obesity (NWO) is characterized by excess body fat in individuals with normal body mass index (BMI). This study aimed to investigate gut microbiota alterations in NWO and their potential associations with cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) risk in two independent cohorts.

Methods: Our NWO-CMD mortality analysis included 168 099 adults with normal BMI from two large open-access databases, while our NWO-gut microbiota study involved 5467 adults with normal BMI from two independent cohorts: the WELL-China cohort and the Lanxi cohort.

Overuse of fossil fuels and anthropogenic activities have led to excessive emissions of carbon dioxide, leading to global warming, and measures to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations are needed to overcome this global challenge. Therefore, exploring an environmentally friendly strategy for capturing airborne CO and converting it into high-value-added chemicals offers a promising pathway toward "carbon neutrality". In recent years, porous organic polymers have attracted much attention for carbon capture and the catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide because of their high specific surface area, high chemical stability, nanoscale porosity, and structural versatility, which make them easy to functionalize.
