Men who have sex with men (MSM) are recognized as being at high risk for HIV infection. While studies have found that the prevalence of risky behaviors routinely remained high among MSM, few have focused on reasons why MSM may perceive they were or were not at risk for HIV infection. The objective of this study was to examine HIV risk perception among MSM in Beijing and Chongqing, China.

Parent polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been shown to induce cellular oxidative stress. However, the effects of PCB active metabolites have not been extensively investigated. Parent PCBs are first converted to hydroquinone metabolites via cytochrome P-450-catalyzed hydroxylation, and the hydroquinone metabolites are then further oxidized into the corresponding quinone metabolites.

Research on the effects of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) toxicity tends to focus on commercial PCB congeners and parent PCBs themselves. However, studies have suggested that PCB metabolites may be more interesting than the parent compounds because of their high reactivity. As a key metabolic enzyme, glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are responsible for detoxification by catalyzing the conjugation reaction of glutathione (GSH) to xenobiotics.

There are two different international standards for the treatment of follicular lymphoma (FL): intensified therapy followed by autologous stem-cell transplantation (ASCT) and conventional therapy in the first-line setting. However, their role remains unclear. Our aim was to define the treatment effect of intensified therapy followed by ASCT compared with conventional therapy as first-line treatment of patients with FL in terms of overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS).

Hypoxia inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) is central to the hypoxic response in mammals. HIF-1α prolyl hydroxylase 3 (PHD3) degrades HIF through the hydroxylation of HIF-1α. Inhibition of PHD3 activity is crucial for up-regulating HIF-1α levels, thereby acting as HIF-dependent diseases therapy.

To study the process of morphogenesis, one often needs to collect and segment time-lapse images of living tissues to accurately track changing cellular morphology. This task typically involves segmenting and tracking tens to hundreds of individual cells over hundreds of image frames, a scale that would certainly benefit from automated routines; however, any automated routine would need to reliably handle a large number of sporadic, and yet typical problems (e.g.

Objective: To investigate the discrepancy of HBsAg titre and correlation of HBV DNA levels among patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), HBV-related liver cirrhosis (LC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: HBsAg titre and HBV DNA in serum samples were measured among 47 CHB, 72 LC and 54 HCC cases using Abbott chemiluminescence and fluorescence quantitative PCR, respectively. Statistical analyses among multiple groups, between two groups and about the correlation were performed using Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman test, respectively.

This study assessed the correlates of recent HIV testing and HIV/AIDS-related stigmatizing and discriminatory attitudes among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Beijing, China. A cross-sectional study probed demographics, sexual and drug use behaviors, HIV testing, and prevention services. Of 500 participants, 39.

We assessed HIV prevalence and associated behaviors and risk factors among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Beijing, China. Five hundred MSM were recruited for a biological and behavioral survey using respondent-driven sampling (RDS) in 2009. Serologic specimens were tested for markers of HIV and syphilis infection.

The freshwater luminescent bacteria Vibrio-qinghaiensis sp.-Q67 test and the Vicia faba root tip test associated with solid-phase extraction were applied for cytotoxicity and genotoxicity assessment of organic substances in three rivers, two lakes and effluent flows from two wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Xi'an, China. Although the most seriously polluted river with high chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) showed high cytotoxicity (expressed as TII50, the toxicity impact index) and genotoxicity (expressed as RMCN, the relative frequency of micronucleus), no correlative relation was found between the ecotoxicity and organic content of the water samples.

Objective: To investigate the effect and mechanism of Sibiraea angustata on lipid metabolism in hight-fatted SD rats.

Methods: After the obese model was built,Sibiraea angustata was administrated intragastrically to obese rats for 8 weeks. Peeled off fat around kidneys and made pathological tissue sections.

Coordination of apical constriction in epithelial sheets is a fundamental process during embryogenesis. Here, we show that DRhoGEF2 is a key regulator of apical pulsation and constriction of amnioserosal cells during Drosophila dorsal closure. Amnioserosal cells mutant for DRhoGEF2 exhibit a consistent decrease in amnioserosa pulsations whereas overexpression of DRhoGEF2 in this tissue leads to an increase in the contraction time of pulsations.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) is widely used in menopause symptoms strategy.

Aim Of The Study: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of isopropanolic black cohosh extract (iCR) on the central body temperature (CBT) of ovariectomized rats (OVX) and elaborate its possible effects in alleviating menopause related hot flushes.

Materials And Methods: 64 female Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 230 ± 10g and aged 6-8 weeks, were divided into four groups: ovariectomy (OVX), sham, ovariectomy plus estradiol valerate (OVX+E), and ovariectomy plus iCR (OVX+ICR).

A Zn(2+) tetraazamacrocycle complex (2) bearing three naphthalene moieties has been prepared. Complex 2 recognizes, binds and causes damage to DNA, and shows considerable cytotoxicity against human cervical (HeLa), breast (MCF-7) and lung (NCI-H157) cancer cell lines with a different apoptotic pathway from that of cisplatin.

A bioassay using the luminescent bacterium Vibrio-qinghaiensis sp.-Q67 associated with solid-phase extraction (SPE) was developed for evaluating the variation of ecotoxicity along with the reduction of organic substances in a domestic wastewater treatment plant employing an oxidation ditch process. With effective elimination of the interference from all inorganic substances by the SPE operation, the ecotoxicity of the water, as expressed by the toxicity impact index, TII(50) (%) after a model-based regression and parameter transformation, was found to decrease from 50.

The genome stability is maintained by coordinated action of DNA repairs and checkpoints, which delay progression through the cell cycle in response to DNA damage. Rad9 is conserved from yeast to human and functions in cell cycle checkpoint controls. Here, a regulatory mechanism for Rad9 function is reported.
