Article Synopsis
  • Mindfulness training is growing in popularity in China, but past research has mainly focused on how much mindfulness is practiced rather than the quality of that practice, leading to the validation of the Practice Quality - Mindfulness (PQ-M) as a solution.
  • The study involved 160 participants who practiced mindfulness for 20 minutes daily over four days and completed various assessments to evaluate the internal consistency and construct validity of the Chinese version of the PQ-M (Ch-PQ-M).
  • Results showed that Ch-PQ-M has good internal consistency and reliability, and its two-factor model (perseverance and receptivity) is supported; significant improvements were noted in participants' trait anxiety and associated measures of well-being.

Retrosplenial cortex (RSC) is a brain region involved in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. It has reciprocal connections with a diverse set of cortical and subcortical brain regions, but the afferent structure and behavioral function of circuits defined by its projection-specific sub-populations have yet to be determined. The corticocortical connections between RSC and secondary motor cortex (M2), as well as corticothalamic connections between RSC and anterodorsal thalamus (AD) have been hypothesized to function as semi-independent, but parallel pathways that impact spatial information processing in distinct ways.

Objective: Interoception plays an important role in psychological functioning and mental and physical health. Recent studies have highlighted the need to distinguish between different aspects of interoception in self-report measures, including subjective interoceptive accuracy and attention. However, there is currently no questionnaire available in Chinese to measure either of these aspects, especially in patients with chronic pain conditions.

Designing innovative nanozymes with satisfactory catalytic activity and biocompatibility through simple and inexpensive approaches and excavating their multifunctional applications have crucial value and significance for the development of nanozyme science. In this work, RuNPs with excellent oxidase (OXD)-mimetic and peroxidase (POD)-like activity were synthesized via simple one-pot solvothermal reaction and exploited for disease marker detection, elimination of cancer cells, and in vitro antibacterial. Based on the OXD-mimetic activity of RuNPs, a new colorimetric biosensor was ingeniously designed for α-glucosidase (α-Glu) activity determination and screening of its inhibitors.

Article Synopsis
  • - The case report discusses a postpartum woman suffering from pseudo-Meigs' syndrome (PMS) characterized by symptoms like abdominal pain, significant ascites, and hypercoagulation.
  • - Treatment with emergency anticoagulation led to improvements, such as the resolution of ascites and abdominal pain, despite the presence of a large degenerating uterine fibroid.
  • - Pathological analysis post-surgery confirmed the diagnosis, and ongoing research is recommended to explore the link between hypercoagulable states and PMS in pregnant patients.

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluates how well noninvasive serum liver fibrosis markers and portal vein diameter (PVD) can predict esophageal variceal bleeding (EVB) in patients with cirrhosis.
  • A cohort of 102 cirrhosis patients was analyzed, comparing those with and without EVB by examining various liver fibrosis indicators and other factors using ROC curve analysis.
  • Results showed significant differences in liver fibrosis markers between the two groups, and combining these markers with PVD improved predictive accuracy for EVB, indicating their clinical importance in managing patients with cirrhosis.

Objective: The aim of this study is to systematically examine and compare the characteristics distinguishing colorectal adenomatous polyps from normal mucosal intestinal microbiota.

Methods: A total of 30 specimens were obtained from patients diagnosed with colorectal adenomatous polyps (adenoma group) who underwent endoscopic removal at Wenzhou People's Hospital between September 2021 and November 2021. Concurrently, 30 normal mucosal specimens were collected from patients without adenomatous polyps (control group).

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical efficacy of the empathy-based attribution analysis-cognitive restructuring-pharmacological treatment model for the management of globus syndrome.

Method: Sixty-nine newly diagnosed patients with globus syndrome at the Wenzhou People's Hospital Department of Gastroenterology outpatient clinic were enrolled in this study. After obtaining informed consent, patients were randomly assigned to either the observation group (attribution analysis-cognitive restructuring-classical pharmacotherapy; n = 35) or the control group (pharmacotherapy alone; n = 34), with a treatment course of 4 weeks.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the relationship between depression and perceived ostracism among 389 Chinese college students, focusing on how interpretation bias and mindfulness play a role in this connection.
  • It found that higher levels of depression were linked to feeling more ostracized, with negative interpretation bias partially mediating this relationship.
  • Additionally, mindfulness, particularly awareness, seemed to reduce the impact of interpretation bias on perceived ostracism, suggesting that being more aware can help mitigate feelings of social rejection in depressed individuals.*

Novel brain clearing methods revolutionize imaging by increasing visualization throughout the brain at high resolution. However, combining the standard tool of immunostaining targets of interest with clearing methods has lagged behind. We integrate whole-mount immunostaining with PEGASOS tissue clearing, referred to as iPEGASOS (immunostaining-compatible PEGASOS), to address the challenge of signal quenching during clearing processes.

Regeneration in the injured spinal cord is limited by physical and chemical barriers. Acute implantation of a multichannel poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLG) bridge mechanically stabilizes the injury, modulates inflammation, and provides a permissive environment for rapid cellularization and robust axonal regrowth through this otherwise inhibitory milieu. However, without additional intervention, regenerated axons remain largely unmyelinated (<10%), limiting functional repair.

Although there is a body of research indicating the potential impact of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) exposure on male infertility, the understanding of how PAH might affect female infertility is still limited. This study aimed to evaluate associations of PAHs, both individually and as a mixture, with female infertility using multiple logistic regression, Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR), and quantile g-computation (QGC) models based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2016. The study included 729 female participants.

A 14-year-old West Highland White terrier dog developed multiple raised plaques that were confined to the concave surface of the right pinna. Histology allowed a diagnosis of viral plaque, although the lesions contained some unusual microscopic features. A papillomaviral (PV) DNA sequence was amplified from the plaque using consensus PCR primers.
