The impact of oxidized myoglobin (Mb) on myofibrillar protein (MP) oxidation and water retention was investigated. Results showed that the oxidation of Mb increased with increasing concentration of oxidized linoleic acid (OLA). In the presence of 100 mmol/L OLA, hemin iron decreased by 62.

The fluorescence intensity of MDA-MP adducts, and surface hydrophobicity increased, whereas the intrinsic fluorescence intensity and free-amine content of MPs decreased as MDA concentration and incubation time increased. The carbonyl content was 2.

The major polyphenols in purslane extract were analyzed by ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF-MS). To analyze the protective mechanism of purslane polyphenol monomers on MP in the oxidation system, we determined the retained MDA content in the suspension and analyzed the structure and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of MP.

Methods: A total of 122 patients with T2DM were enrolled and categorized into the DM group (without no DR and DKD), DR group [non-proliferative DR (NPDR), and proliferative DR (PDR)] with no DKD), DR complicated with DKD groups (DR+DKD group). The biochemical profile, including fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and lipid profile were estimated, and plasma inflammatory and angiogenic cytokines [monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A, C, D, and placental growth factor (PlGF)] were analyzed by protein microarrays.

Artificial intelligence (AI), also known as machine intelligence, is a branch of science that empowers machines using human intelligence. AI refers to the technology of rendering human intelligence through computer programs. From healthcare to the precise prevention, diagnosis, and management of diseases, AI is progressing rapidly in various interdisciplinary fields, including ophthalmology.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLipid dyshomeostasis has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various retinal and choroidal vascular diseases. This study aims to investigate whether apolipoprotein (apo) mediated differential regulation of lipid metabolism contributes to the phenotypes of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) and neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). This study involved 148 subjects including 53 patients with PCV, 44 patients with nAMD, and 51 age-, sex-matched subjects with normal fundus controls.

Methods: A total of 83 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were enrolled in this prospective case-control study. Patients were categorized into those with no DR (DM), non-proliferative DR (NPDR), and proliferative DR (PDR).
Asiatic acid can attenuate osteoporosis through suppressing adipogenic differentiation and osteoclastic differentiation. Oxidative stress enhances osteoclastic differentiation but represses osteogenic differentiation to promote osteoporosis. However, the role and mechanism of asiatic acid in osteoporosis have not been reported.

The efficacy of different concentrations of ZBMEO on the change in physical and chemical indicators of the rabbit meat patty was evaluated. Furthermore, kinetics models were employed to calculate the lipid oxidation induction period and microbial growth lag time.

This case-control study included 76 patients (76 eyes) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), and refraction error between -3.0 and +3.

Proper DR models are crucial for exploring pathophysiology and identifying novel therapeutic targets. This study establishes a rational diabetic retinal neuronal-endothelial dysfunction model and a comprehensive downstream validation system.

The secondary fragment ion information of the target compound was selected and compared with the compound reported in databases and related literatures to further confirm the possible compounds. A total of 47 chemical constituents were identified from the ethyl acetate extract of Zhideke granules, including 21 flavonoids and glycosides, 9 organic acids, 4 volatile components, 3 nitrogen-containing compounds, and 10 other compounds according to the fragmentation patterns, relevant literature, and MS data.

Accompanied by the gradually increased substitution rate of KCl, the oxidative degradation of protein, water content, water activity (a), gap, as well as water loss in salted pork were increased, and the results showed significant differences (p < 0.05).

Methods: PubMed, Embase, and MEDLINE Ovid were searched to identify studies. We performed subgroup analyses for differences in the surgical timing, surgical approach, optic canal fractures, state of consciousness after trauma, time of visual loss development, incision of the optic nerve sheath, and treatment methods.
Background: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy has been suggested to be a beneficial alternative in cervical dystonia (CD) for patients who failed nonsurgical treatments. This individual patient data meta-analysis compared the efficacy of DBS in the globus pallidus internus (GPi) versus subthalamic nucleus (STN) and identified possible predictive factors for CD.
Methods: Three electronic databases (PubMed, Embase and Web of Science) were searched for studies with no publication date restrictions.
