Background: The function of the tumor suppressor gene RASSF1A in cancer cells has been detailed in many studies. However, due to the methylation of its promoter, the expression of RASSF1A is missing in most cancers. In the literature, we found that the conclusion regarding the relationship between RASSF1A gene promoter methylation and the susceptibility and prognosis of melanoma was not unified.

Apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 allele is the genetic risk factor with the most established evidence for sporadic Alzheimer's disease. Previous neuroimaging studies have demonstrated insufficiently consistent functional and structural changes among healthy APOE ε4 carriers when compared to non-carriers. Here, in a cognitively intact elderly group (a total of 110: 45 APOE ε4 carriers, 65 non-carriers), we aimed to investigate the potential role of APOE ε4 in the modulation of grey matter activity, white matter integrity, and brain morphology before the development of clinically significant symptoms and signs, by methods of: amplitude of low frequency fluctuations and regional homogeneity analysis based on resting state fMRI, and fiber tractography approach based on diffusion tensor imaging.

Piezoelectricity in macromolecule polymers has been gaining immense attention, particularly for applications in biocompatible, implantable, and flexible electronic devices. This paper introduces core-shell-structured piezoelectric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofibers chemically wrapped by graphene oxide (GO) lamellae (PVDF/GO nanofibers), in which the polar β-phase nanocrystals are formed and uniaxially self-oriented by the synergistic effect of mechanical stretching, high-voltage alignment, and chemical interactions. The β-phase orientation of the PVDF/GO nanofibers along their axes is observed at atomic scale through high resolution transmission electron microscopy, and the β-phase content is found to be 88.

In marine aquaculture fish, excessive supplement of vitamin A (VA) to zooplanktons for larval culture and experimental exposure of larvae to retinoic acid (RA: active form of VA) have been known to cause vertebral deformity. However, the tissues in the developing vertebral column that are affected by RA and the progression of vertebral deformity remain undetermined. To examine these questions, we histologically traced the progress of vertebral deformity induced by RA in Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus).

OBJECTIVE Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a major component of the inner leaflet of membrane bilayers. During cell activation or apoptosis, PS is externalized to the outer membrane, providing an important physiological signal necessary for the release of the microparticles (MPs) that are generated through the budding of cellular membranes. MPs express PS and membrane antigens that reflect their cellular origin.

The measurement of wellbore annulus gas-liquid two-phase flow in CBM (coalbed methane) wells is of great significance for reasonably developing gas drainage and extraction processes, estimating CBM output, judging the operating conditions of CBM wells and analyzing stratum conditions. Hence, a specially designed sensor is urgently needed for real-time measurement of gas-liquid two-phase flow in CBM wellbore annulus. Existing flow sensors fail to meet the requirements of the operating conditions of CBM wellbore annulus due to such factors as an inapplicable measurement principle, larger size, poor sealability, high installation accuracy, and higher requirements for fluid media.

The first total synthesis of four 2-deoxy-3,6-anhydro hexofuranoside derivatives, namely sauropunols (A-D), isolated from the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Sauropus rostratus was accomplished. Structures of sauropunols A and B were clearly elucidated and reassigned. The anti-inflammatory activities of sauropunols (A-D) as well as the synthetic intermediates were evaluated, which is valuable for further structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies on this class of natural products.

In order to conquer the short-channel effects that limit conventional ultra-scale semiconductor devices, two-dimensional materials, as an option of ultimate thin channels, receive wide attention. Graphene, in particular, bears great expectations because of its supreme carrier mobility and saturation velocity. However, its main disadvantage, the lack of bandgap, has not been satisfactorily solved.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) has been the leading cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Podocyte apoptosis is a main mechanism of progression of DN. It has been demonstrated that activated P38 and caspase-3 induced by oxidative stress mainly account for increased podocyte apoptosis and proteinuria in DN.

Extracted from Euphorbia, ent-Abietane lactones can be classified into several categories, such as Jolkinolides and Helioscopinolides, according to their structural features. The study of ent- Abietane lactones could date back to 1972, when Jolkinolide A and B were first isolated from Euphorbia jolkini Boiss. Since then, many other ent-Abietane lactones have been extracted from different species of Euphorbia.

The role of phosphatidylserine (PS)-mediated procoagulant activity (PCA) in stroke remains unclear. To ascertain this role, early dynamic evolution of PS exposure on blood cells and released microparticles (MPs) and the corresponding PCA were evaluated in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Flow cytometry analyses revealed that initial levels of PS exposure on erythrocyte, platelet, and leukocyte were 2.

The parameters of gas-liquid two-phase flow bubbles in field coalbed methane (CBM) wells are of great significance for analyzing coalbed methane output, judging faults in CBM wells, and developing gas drainage and extraction processes, which stimulates an urgent need for detecting bubble parameters for CBM wells in the field. However, existing bubble detectors cannot meet the requirements of the working environments of CBM wells. Therefore, this paper reports findings on the principles of measuring the flow pattern, velocity, and volume of two-phase flow bubbles based on conductivity, from which a new bubble sensor was designed.

A simple one-step solution-phase synthesis of iron-cobalt-phosphide ((Fe1-xCox)2P) nanorods (NRs) is reported in this paper. Through the control of the amount of Co in the samples, the crystal structure of (Fe1-xCox)2P NRs changes from a pure Fe-rich hexagonal Fe2P type structure to a mixture of Fe-rich hexagonal Fe2P and Co-rich orthorhombic Co2P type structures. These samples show superparamagnetic behavior at room temperature and ferromagnetic properties at 10 K.

Sensory neurons are particularly susceptible to neuronal damage in diabetes, and silent mating type information regulation 2 homolog 1 (Sirt1) has been recently identified as a key gene in neuroprotection and wound healing. We found that the expression of Sirt1 was downregulated in trigeminal sensory neurons of diabetic mice. A microRNA microarray analysis identified microRNA-182 (miR-182) as a Sirt1 downstream effector, and the expression level of miR-182 was increased by Sirt1 overexpression in trigeminal neurons; Sirt1 bound to the promoter of miR-182 and regulated its transcription.
