Background: Few studies have shown nomograms that may predict disease-specific survival (DSS) probability after curative D2 gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer (AGC), particularly among Chinese patients. This study sought to develop an elaborative nomogram that predicts long-term DSS for AGC in Chinese patients.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 6753 AGC patients undergoing D2 gastrectomy between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2012 from three large medical hospitals in China.
Hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) is a widely employed surrogate of portal pressure gradient (PPG) in the diagnosis of portal hypertension (PHT). However, little is known about how HVPG measurement is affected by the complex vascular changes associated with PHT. In this study, we employed a computational method to quantitatively evaluate the sensitivity of HVPG measurement to various vascular factors involved in the development of sinusoidal PHT, aiming to provide a theoretical reference to guide the clinical application of HVPG measurement.

However, the results remain controversial. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to explore the correlation between PIVKA-II expression and survival outcomes in these patients.

This damage affects subsequent embryo development or may even cause death before implantation. X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) is an anti-apoptosis gene that has been widely studied in cancer research.

This meta-analysis was aimed to comprehensively summarize the previous studies and to explore the prognostic value of CXCR2 in patients with cancer.
Materials And Methods: An adequate literature search in EMBASE and PubMed was conducted.
Trastuzumab is the only target to be approved as the first-line treatment of HER2 positive metastatic gastric cancer, but ubiquitous resistance decreases its therapeutic benefit. In this study, we found HER4, phosphorylation HER4 (p-HER4) and the mesenchymal marker Vimentin increased in trastuzumab-resistant cells (MKN45TR and NCI-N87TR), while epithelial markers expressions in trastuzumab-resistant cell lines and animal models decreased. Additionally, silencing HER4 prevented the epithelial-mesenchymal transition and led to decreased proliferation and migration in vitro and in vivo.

The transcriptional co-activator Yes-associated protein (YAP) has been implicated as an oncogene and is found to promote breast cancer metastasis. However, the pro-metastatic mechanism of YAP remains unclear. Here, we demonstrated that YAP functions as a transcriptional repressor of growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF15), a divergent member of the transforming growth factor superfamily, in several breast cancer cell lines.

However, microRNA (miRNA) regulation of aerobic glycolysis in cancer cells has not been extensively investigated. We addressed this in the present study by examining the regulation of miR-139-5p on aerobic glycolysis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using clinical specimens, HCC cells, and a mouse xenograft model.

Numerous PDX models have been established to date, however their thorough characterization regarding the tumor formation and rates of tumor growth in the established models remains a challenging task. Our study aimed to provide more detailed information for establishing the PDX models successfully and effectively.

However, the expression and function of MUC1 in uterine tissues during early pregnancy in sheep after artificially-induced oestrous is not known. Therefore, we investigated the expression and function of MUC1 in the early pregnant and non-pregnant uterine tissues of sheep with natural oestrous or artificially-induced oestrous on days 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 of the cycle by in situ hybridization, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, immunohistochemical staining and western blotting methods.

In this study, we demonstrate that interaction between Drosophila E2F1 and Sd disrupts Yki/Sd complex formation and thereby suppresses Yki target gene expression. RBF modifies these effects by reducing E2F1/Sd interaction.

Background And Aims: The meta-analysis aimed to summarize the technical success rate of supersonic shear imaging (SSI) and to evaluate the diagnostic performance of liver and spleen stiffness measurement (LSM and SSM) with SSI for the detection of liver fibrosis, portal hypertension, and gastroesophageal varices in liver diseases.
Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases were searched. Technical success rate of SSI was pooled.
Esophageal cancer is a malignant digestive tract cancer with high mortality. Although studies have found that esophageal cancer is involved in a complex and important gene regulation network, the pathogenesis remains unclear. The recently described long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are one effective part of the gene regulation network.

Curcumin is a well-known phytochemical exhibiting antitumor activity on many human cancers including glioblastoma multiforme. Given the unique miRNA expression profiles in cancer cells compared to non-cancerous cells, we investigated whether these miRNA could be used to cancer therapy.

There have been few reports on the repair of multiple aneurysms conducted with the Da Vinci robot-assisted surgical platform (Intuitive Surgical Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, USA), especially for those located in renal artery primary bifurcations.

We retrospectively analyzed the expression levels of PAK6, cyclooxygenase 2, p21, Ki-67, excision repair cross-complementing gene 1, and thymidylate synthase in 242 paraffin-embedded GC specimens of the training cohort by immunohistochemistry. Then, we used support vector machine (SVM)-based methods to develop a predictive classifier for chemotherapy (chemotherapy score - CS-SVM classifier).
