Accurate prediction of binding between human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I molecules and antigenic peptide segments is a challenging task and a key bottleneck in personalized immunotherapy for cancer. Although existing prediction tools have demonstrated significant results using established datasets, most can only predict the binding affinity of antigenic peptides to HLA and do not enable the immunogenic interpretation of new antigenic epitopes. This limitation results from the training data for the computational models relying heavily on a large amount of peptide-HLA (pHLA) eluting ligand data, in which most of the candidate epitopes lack immunogenicity.

Bile acid (BA) homeostasis is vital for various physiological processes, whereas its disruption underlies cholestasis. The farnesoid X receptor (FXR) is a master regulator of BA homeostasis via the ileal fibroblast growth factor (FGF)15/19 endocrine pathway, responding to postprandial or abnormal transintestinal BA flux. However, the de novo paracrine signal mediator of hepatic FXR, which governs the extent of BA synthesis within the liver in non-postprandial or intrahepatic cholestatic conditions, remains unknown.

The repair and reconstruction of large-scale bone defects face enormous challenges because of the failure to reconstruct the osteo-vascularization network. Herein, a near-infrared (NIR) light-responsive hydrogel system is reported to achieve programmed tissue repair and regeneration through the synergetic effects of on-demand drug delivery and mild heat stimulation. The spatiotemporal hydrogel system (HG/MPa) composed of polydopamine-coated TiCT MXene (MP) nanosheets decorated with acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF, a potent angiogenic drug) and hydroxypropyl chitosan/gelatin (HG) hydrogel is developed to orchestrate the reconstruction of the osteo-vascularization network and boost bone regeneration.

The biodegradability of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a crucial process in the migration and transformation of soil organic carbon (SOC), and play a vital role in the global soil carbon (C) cycle. Although the significance of DOC in SOC transportation and microbial utilization is widely acknowledged, the impact of long-term rice-crayfish (RC) farming on the content, quality, and biodegradability of DOC in paddy soils, as well as regulatory mechanisms involved, remains unclear. To address this gap, a space-for-time method was employed to investigate the effects of different RC farming durations (1-, 5-, 10-, 15-, and 20- years) on the quality and biodegradability of DOC, as well as their relationship with soil microbial metabolism and minerals in this study.

  • Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a serious heart disease linked to diabetes, and the balance of certain amino acids produced by gut bacteria plays an important role in it.
  • Mice with type 1 diabetes had higher levels of these amino acids because their gut bacteria couldn’t break them down well, which hurt their hearts.
  • Transplanting healthy gut bacteria helped improve heart function in diabetic mice, but this was stopped if a specific protein (FGF21) was reduced, showing that FGF21 is very important in this process.
