This work aims to predict the starch, vitamin C, soluble solids, and titratable acid contents of apple fruits using hyperspectral imaging combined with machine learning approaches. First, a hyperspectral camera by rotating samples was used to obtain hyperspectral images of the apple fruit surface in the spectral range of 380~1018 nm, and its region of interest (ROI) was extracted; then, the optimal preprocessing method was preferred through experimental comparisons; on this basis, genetic algorithms (GA), successive projection algorithms (SPA), and competitive adaptive reweighting adoption algorithms (CARS) were used to extract feature variables; subsequently, multiple machine learning models (support vector regression SVR, principal component regression PCR, partial least squares regression PLSR, and multiple linear regression MLR) were used to model the inversion between hyperspectral images and internal nutrient quality physicochemical indexes of fruits, respectively. Through the comparative analysis of all the model prediction results, it was found that among them, for starch, vitamin C, soluble solids, and titratable acid content, 2 Der-CARS-MLR were the optimal prediction models with superior performance (the prediction coefficients of determination R exceeded 90% in all of them).

Structural modification/unfolding of starch molecules can be improved by radio frequency (RF) treatment. This necessitates a better understanding of its action mechanism through rapid heating and dipolar/ionic molecular vibration effects. Native maize starch (NS) was subjected to RF heating in a NaCl solution to five target temperatures, and its effect on structural modifications was evaluated.

Introduction: Understanding how human activities affect biodiversity is needed to inform systemic policies and targets for achieving sustainable development goals. Shallow tillage to remove is commonly conducted in the Mu Us Desert. However, the impacts of shallow tillage on plant community species diversity, phylogenetic structure, and community assembly processes remain poorly understood.

TRPS1 is aberrantly expressed in a variety of tumors, including breast, prostate, and gastric cancers, and is strongly associated with tumorigenesis or prognosis. However, the role of TRPS1 in high grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSC) is unknown. We investigated the relationship between TRPS1 expression and clinicopathology in HGSC patients.

Background: Seasons were found to be related to the occurrences of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in hospitalized patients. No previous study has explored whether seasons were associated with VTE risk in pregnant women. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between the season of delivery and VTE risk during hospitalization among pregnant women.

In the present study, a procyanidins-enriched fraction (PCE) from the rhizome of Fagopyrum dibotrys was obtained by anticomplement activity-guided fractionation. PCE could alleviate H1N1-induced ALI in mice by reducing weight loss, decreasing lung index, and regulating cytokine levels in lung tissue. PCE contained 76.

Article Synopsis
  • - Polygonatum odoratum, a perennial herb in the Liliaceae family and a traditional Chinese medicinal plant, has been found to contain various active compounds such as polysaccharides and flavonoids.
  • - In May to June 2022, a stem spot disease was identified in P. odoratum plants in Changsha, China, affecting 40-50% of the plants and causing serious economic losses by stunting growth.
  • - Researchers collected symptomatic stem samples to identify pathogens, isolating two fungal strains that displayed rapid growth on a culture medium, which may contribute to understanding and managing the disease affecting these plants.

Microarchitectures with complex interior structures are important for many applications. However, engineering complex interior structures within microarchitectures are challenging. This article reports the introduction of electrochemical sculpting processes to carve the microarchitectures during or after their electrochemical growing process to design the interior structure of the microarchitectures.

  • Vegetation restoration enhances the ecological environment of mine tailings, notably affecting soil fungal communities, yet there is limited knowledge about its specific benefits for ectomycorrhizal fungi.
  • A study in Liaoning Province, China, found that different types of vegetation significantly improved soil properties, with black locust showing the best results in increasing total carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus levels compared to other species like Korean pine and Chinese poplar.
  • The research highlighted that black locust not only boosted soil nutrients but also supported a more diverse ectomycorrhizal fungal community, suggesting its potential as an effective species for restoring iron mine tailings.

The females and males of dioecious plants have evolved sex-specific characteristics in terms of their morphological and physiological properties. However, the differentiation of phyllosphere microorganism of dioecious plants between parents and hybrid offspring remain largely unexplored. Here, the phyllosphere bacterial and fungal community diversity and composition of female ( 'DH5' (PNDH5)), male ( 'DH4' (PSDH4)), and the hybrid offspring ( × 'DH1' (PSPNDH1), × 'DH2' (PSPNDH2), × 'DH3' (PSPNDH3)) were investigated using 16S rDNA/ITS rDNA gene-based Illumina NovaSeq 6000 sequencing.

In this study, the effect of the post-curing process as well as the long-term weathering behavior were studied for three different three-dimensional printable, pigmented (black), nonstabilized, ultraviolet (UV) cure resin formulations (A and B being thiol-ene chemistry, and C being acrylate chemistry). To study the effect of the post-cure process, the printed parts were post-cured using one of five different processes: no post-cure, UV-only, heat-only, UV+heat, and electron beam (EB) post-curing. Bulk tensile properties and nanohardness were measured for each of the systems and post-cure conditions.

  • - Primary hepatic neuroendocrine tumors (PHNETs) are rare and hard to diagnose based on imaging alone, often requiring advanced techniques for accurate identification.
  • - A case of a 79-year-old male with asymptomatic PHNET was examined using CT and F-FDG PET/CT, revealing a mass in the liver that indicated a grade 2 neuroendocrine tumor after further tests.
  • - The study emphasizes the difficulty in diagnosing PHNETs, highlighting the need to differentiate them from other liver tumors and to rule out metastatic neuroendocrine tumors.

Background: Sorafenib is the first molecular-targeted drug for the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, its treatment efficiency decreases after a short period of time because of the development of drug resistance. This study investigates the role of key genes in regulating sorafenib-resistance and elucidates the mechanism of drug resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Purpose: The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the value of the combination of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) and blue dye (BD) for SLN detection in patients with clinically negative node breast cancer.

Methods: Patients with clinically negative node breast cancer were randomized into two cohorts for SLN biopsy (SLNB): the combination method cohort using CEUS and BD together, and the single BD method cohort. Standard axillary lymph node dissection was performed if any of the SLNs confirmed positive by pathology.
