Airway inflammation plays a key role in the pathogenesis and development of asthma. Stanniocalcin-1 (STC-1) has powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic functions but its impact on the airway inflammation in asthma lacks evidence. Here, we investigated the effect and potential mechanism of STC-1 on airway inflammation through asthmatic mice model and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated BEAS-2B cells.

  • * Our research found that over 90% of CSR junctions in healthy individuals were due to deletional recombination, revealing two main CSR junction patterns: one linked to IgG and IgA with a high prevalence of Sµ-Sγ junctions, and another mainly associated with Sµ-Sα junctions.
  • * The study indicates that the effectiveness of classical nonhomologous end joining (c-NHEJ) pathways in B cells is important for CSR regulation, with the two identified signatures suggesting different mechanisms of recombination

  • Sleep deprivation has been explored as a technique to enhance EEG testing for epilepsy, but previous studies have produced inconsistent results regarding its diagnostic effectiveness.
  • A meta-analysis examined 12 studies from the Web of Science and PubMed, focusing on the impact of factors like patient age, sleep deprivation duration, and EEG recording time on diagnostic value.
  • While overall results showed no significant benefit, a trend indicated a slight diagnostic advantage after removing outliers, highlighting the need for standardized protocols in future research.

We investigated fasting hypertriglyceridemia as predictors of all-cause, cardiovascular, and non-cardiovascular mortality in an elderly male Chinese population, while accounting for various conventional cardiovascular risk factors. Our participants were elderly men recruited from residents living in a suburban town of Shanghai (≥60 years of age, n = 1583). Hypertriglyceridemia was defined as a fasting serum triglycerides concentration ≥1.

Background: The prognosis of trauma patients is highly dependent on early medical diagnosis. By constructing a nomogram model, the risk of adverse outcomes can be displayed intuitively and individually, which has important clinical implications for medical diagnosis.

Objective: To develop and evaluate models for predicting patients with adverse outcomes of trauma that can be used in different data availability settings in China.

Objective: To investigate three features of dietary cooking oil intake, namely, the consumption, cooking style, and composition of fatty acids in relation to several cardiometabolic measurements in an elderly Chinese population.

Methods: The elderly (≥ 65 years) participants for this study were recruited from two community health centers in the urban area of Shanghai. A questionnaire was administered to collect information on dietary oil consumption (low, medium and high) and cooking styles (fry or stir-fry others) and the composition of fatty acids (poly-unsaturated mono-unsaturated).

The rapid growth of urban instant delivery, facilitated by digital platforms and characterized by on-demand, short-term, task-based labor, has raised concerns about safety, particularly with the increasing frequency of instant delivery crashes (IDCs). This study addresses knowledge gaps in understanding injury patterns and risk factors associated with IDCs. Utilizing data extracted from judicial verdicts on IDC disputes in China, encompassing demographic, contextual, crash, and injury information, the research employs ordered logit regression to identify significant factors affecting injury patterns, the number of injuries per person (IPP), and injury severity.

Purpose: This study contributes to the evolving understanding of the pivotal involvement of Sirtuins (SIRTs) in various human cancers, with a particular focus on elucidating their expression patterns and clinical relevance within the context of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The investigation involves a comprehensive analysis of mRNA expression and prognostic implications associated with distinct SIRTs in HCC.

Patients And Methods: Initial data pertaining to SIRT expression in HCC patients were collated from publicly accessible databases.

Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common arthritis that is characterized by the progressive synovial inflammation and loss of articular cartilage. Although GYY4137 is a novel and slow-releasing hydrogen sulfide (HS) donor with potent anti-inflammatory properties that may modulate the progression of OA, its underlying mechanism remains unclear.

Objectives: In this study, we validated the protective role of GYY4137 against OA pathological courses and elucidated its underlying regulatory mechanisms.

The combination of higher-order topological insulators and valley photonic crystals has recently aroused extensive attentions due to the great potential in flexible and efficient optical field manipulations. Here, we computationally propose a photonic device for the 1550 nm communication band, in which the topologically protected electromagnetic modes with high quality can be selectively triggered and modulated on demand. Through introducing two valley photonic crystal units without any structural alteration, we successfully achieve multi-dimensional coupled topological states thanks to the diverse electromagnetic characteristics of two valley edge states.

Purpose: Some individuals with idiopathic focal epilepsy (IFE) experience recurring seizures accompanied by the evolution of electrical status epilepticus during sleep (ESES). Here, we aimed to develop a predictor for the early detection of seizure recurrence with ESES in children with IFE using resting state electroencephalogram (EEG) data.

Methods: The study group included 15 IFE patients who developed seizure recurrence with ESES.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by SARS-CoV-2, have profoundly affected human health. Booster COVID-19 vaccines have demonstrated significant efficacy in reducing infection and severe cases. However, the effects of booster COVID-19 vaccines on key immune cell subsets and their responses in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are not well understood.

Background: In this study, we aimed to investigate the risk factors and impact of poststroke pneumonia (PSP) on mortality and functional outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT).

Methods: This was a post hoc analysis of a prospective randomized trial (Direct intraarterial thrombectomy in order to revascularize AIS patients with large-vessel occlusion efficiently in Chinese tertiary hospitals: a multicenter randomized clinical trial). Patients with AIS who completed EVT were evaluated for the occurrence of PSP during the hospitalization period and their modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores at 90 days after AIS.

Macrophages are abundant immune cells in the microenvironment of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Macrophage estimation by immunohistochemistry shows varying prognostic significance across studies in DLBCL, and does not provide a comprehensive analysis of macrophage subtypes. Here, using digital spatial profiling with whole transcriptome analysis of CD68+ cells, we characterize macrophages in distinct spatial niches of reactive lymphoid tissues (RLTs) and DLBCL.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates whether the amount of thrombus (clot burden) in patients with acute ischemic stroke affects the outcomes of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) followed by mechanical thrombectomy (MT).
  • An analysis of the DIRECT-MT trial categorized clot burden scores into three groups and assessed their impact on treatment efficacy and safety, finding no significant differences in functional outcomes among these groups.
  • Results indicated that while patients with moderate clot burdens had better early reperfusion rates and fewer attempts at thrombectomy, those with high scores experienced a higher rate of asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage; overall, thrombus burden did not change the effectiveness of IVT before MT.

Lane-changing (LC) intention recognition models have seen limited real-world application due to a lack of research on two-lane two-way road environments. This study constructs a high-fidelity simulated two-lane two-way road to develop a Transformer model that accurately recognizes LC intention. We propose a novel LC labelling algorithm combining vehicle dynamics and eye-tracking (VEL) and compare it against traditional time window labelling (TWL).
