Objectives: To evaluate positive health outcomes among children born at < 32 weeks of gestation and to determine whether children with three common neonatal morbidities and 2 neurodevelopmental impairments would have similar positive health outcomes to children and adolescents without these exposures and impairments.

Study Design: In this secondary analysis of prospectively acquired data derived from 3 multicenter cohorts of children born very preterm (the Extremely Low Gestational Age Newborn cohort [birth years 2001 to 2004], the Neurobehavior And Outcomes in Very Preterm Infants cohort [birth years 2014 to 2016], and the Developmental Impact of Neurobehavior And Outcomes in Very Preterm Infants Exposures cohort [birth years 2010 to 2020]), we examined associations between the 3 common neonatal morbidities (bronchopulmonary dysplasia, necrotizing enterocolitis, and intraventricular hemorrhage, diagnosed before hospital discharge), 2 neurodevelopmental impairments (developmental delays and cerebral palsy, diagnosed at preschool age follow-up), and perceptions of physical, mental, and social well-being (in either early childhood or adolescence), using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System scales for positive health.

Results: After adjusting for confounders, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, intraventricular hemorrhage, and cerebral palsy were associated with lower positive health scores, reported by parent-proxy during early childhood.

Previous studies have demonstrated the roles of both microglia homeostasis and RNA editing in sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE), yet their relationship remains to be elucidated. In this study, we analyzed bulk and single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA) datasets containing 107 brain tissue and microglia samples from mice with microglial depletion and repopulation to explore canonical RNA editing associated with microglia homeostasis and evaluate its role in SAE. Analysis of mouse brain RNA-Seq revealed hallmarks of microglial repopulation, including peak expressions of Apobec1 and Apobec3 at Day 5 of repopulation and dramatically altered B2m RNA editing.

Electron transfer pathways have been verified as overriding regimes when peroxydisulfate (PDS) was activated by porous carbon. The incorporation of graphitic structure into carbon matrix was favorable to the rapid electron transfer, but excessive graphitization would deteriorate the specific surface area (SSA), weakening the catalytic performance. The reasonable trade-off between SSA and graphitization degree was necessary and challenging for the preparation of efficient carbon based PS-activators.

Article Synopsis
  • Catalase (CAT) is activated by phosphorylation to protect cells from hydrogen peroxide and stress, but its regulation by protein phosphatases is unclear.
  • Researchers discovered a manganese-dependent protein phosphatase called PHOSPHATASE OF CATALASE 1 (PC1) in rice that negatively impacts salt and oxidative stress tolerance by dephosphorylating CAT.
  • Overexpression of PC1 led to increased sensitivity to stresses, while knocking it out improved the plant's ability to handle these conditions, suggesting that PC1 is a key regulator of CAT activity and salt tolerance strategies in rice.

Perovskite film-quality is a crucial factor to improve the photovoltaic properties of perovskite solar cells, which is closely related to the morphology of crystallization grain size of the perovskite layer. However, defects and trap sites are inevitably generated on the surface and at the grain boundaries of the perovskite layer. Here, we report a convenient method for preparing dense and uniform perovskite films, employing g-CN quantum dots doped into the perovskite layer by regulating proper proportions.

Article Synopsis
  • Soil salinization is a significant problem for global crop production, particularly affecting rice growth and yield, making the enhancement of salt tolerance vital to meet food demands.
  • Research shows that the SALT TOLERANCE KINASE (STK) gene, a type of receptor-like cytoplasmic kinase, plays a critical role in improving rice's response to salt stress by regulating other stress-related genes and enhancing its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS).
  • Overexpressing STK boosts rice's salt and oxidative stress tolerance, while knocking it out leads to increased sensitivity, highlighting STK's positive regulatory role in rice's antioxidant defense and its connection to the abscisic acid (ABA) signaling pathway.
