Purpose: To evaluate the utility of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of extraocular muscles (EOMs) in differentiating activity of thyroid eye disease (TED).

Method: Forty-two TED patients who underwent diffusion tensor imaging(DTI) were retrospectively enrolled in this study, including 29 patients in analysis group and 13 patients in validation group. The mean, maximum and minimum ADC value of each EOM were regarded as ADCmean, ADCmax and ADCmin.

Increasing levels of plasma urotensin II (UII) are positively associated with atherosclerosis. In this study we investigated the role of macrophage-secreted UII in atherosclerosis progression, and evaluated the therapeutic value of urantide, a potent competitive UII receptor antagonist, in atherosclerosis treatment. Macrophage-specific human UII-transgenic rabbits and their nontransgenic littermates were fed a high cholesterol diet for 16 weeks to induce atherosclerosis.

Article Synopsis
  • A mutant rice strain with smooth leaves and hairless glumes was developed through radiation mutagenesis of the indica cultivar R401.
  • A cross was made between the japonica cultivar Nipponbare and the mutant, revealing that the smooth phenotype is controlled by a single recessive gene, designated GLR3.
  • Genetic mapping of GLR3 on chromosome 6 identified it within a 0.2 cM interval between two markers, aiding future research on its function.
