Background: Mixed-lineage leukemia (MLL) fusion gene caused by chromosomal rearrangement is a dominant oncogenic driver in leukemia. Due to having diverse MLL rearrangements and complex characteristics, MLL leukemia treated by currently available strategies is frequently associated with a poor outcome. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify novel therapeutic targets for hematological malignancies with MLL rearrangements.

Global-minimum optimizations combined with relativistic quantum chemistry calculations have been performed to characterize the ground-state stable structures of four titled compounds and to analyze the bonding properties. ThC was identified as being a ThC-Th(C) structure, UC has been found to favor the U-U(C) structure, and both ThC and UC adopt the (AnC)-(AnC) structure. Then, the wave function analyses reveal that the interactions between the Th 7-based orbital and the σ molecular orbital of the C unit compensate for the excitation energy of 76 → 6 and lead to the stabilization of two Th(IV)s in the ThC-Th(C) structure.

Since the successful clinical trial of AuroShell for photothermal therapy, there is currently intense interest in developing gold-based core-shell structures with near-infrared (NIR) absorption ranging from NIR-I (650-900 nm) to NIR-II (900-1700 nm). Here, we propose a seed-mediated successive growth approach to produce gold nanoshells on the surface of the nanoscale metal-organic framework (NMOF) of UiO-66-NH (UiO = the University of Oslo) in one pot. The key to this strategy is to modulate the proportion of the formaldehyde (reductant) and its regulator / oxidative product of formic acid to harness the particle nucleation and growth rate within the same system.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are usually 5' capped and 3' polyadenylated, similar to most typical mRNAs. However, recent studies revealed a type of snoRNA-related lncRNA with unique structures, leading to questions on how they are processed and how they work. Here, we identify a novel snoRNA-related lncRNA named LNC-SNO49AB containing two C/D box snoRNA sequences, SNORD49A and SNORD49B; and show that LNC-SNO49AB represents an unreported type of lncRNA with a 5'-end m7G and a 3'-end snoRNA structure.

Acute alcohol exposure induces unconscious condition such as coma whose main physical manifestation is the loss of righting reflex (LORR). Xingnaojing Injection (XNJI), which came from Chinese classic formula Pill, is widely used for consciousness disorders in China, such as coma. Although XNJI efficiently shortened the duration of LORR induced by acute ethanol, it remains unknown how XNJI acts on ethanol-induced coma (EIC).

In this study, polylactide/urea complexes were successfully prepared by the electrospinning method, then the host urea component was removed to obtain a coalesced poly(L-lactide) (PLLA)/poly(D-lactide) (PDLA) blend. The crystallization behavior of the coalesced PLLA/PDLA blend (c-PLLA/PDLA) was studied by a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The c-PLLA/PDLA was found to show better crystallization ability than normal PLLA/PDLA blend (r-PLLA/PDLA).

The detailed structure and crystallization behavior of poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) have been investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and other methods systematically. For the first time, we confirmed that the C═O stretching modes of PBS can respond to three distinguish absorption bands in the FTIR spectrum, at around 1736, 1720, and 1714 cm respectively. The 1736 cm band is adopted as the stretching mode of C═O groups in free amorphous fraction (MAF); the 1714 cm band which is relevant to more stable structure, displays more anisotropic in polarized FTIR spectra, and has been confirmed as stretching vibrations of hydrogen-bonded C═O groups in the crystalline phase.
