Macroautophagy/autophagy activation in renal tubular epithelial cells protects against acute kidney injury (AKI). However, the role of immune cell autophagy, such as that involving macrophages, in AKI remains unclear. In this study, we discovered that macrophage autophagy was an adaptive response during AKI as mice with macrophage-specific autophagy deficiency () exhibited higher serum creatinine, more severe renal tubule injury, increased infiltration of ADGRE1/F4/80 macrophages, and elevated expression of inflammatory factors compared to WT mice during AKI induced by either LPS or unilateral ischemia-reperfusion.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects more than 10% of the global population, and its incidence is increasing, partially due to an increase in the prevalence of disease risk factors. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is an independent risk factor for CKD and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The pathogenic mechanisms of CKD provide several potential targets for its treatment.

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) plays important roles in biosynthetic and metabolic processes, including protein and lipid synthesis, Ca homeostasis regulation, and subcellular organelle crosstalk. Dysregulation of ER homeostasis can cause toxic protein accumulation, lipid accumulation, and Ca homeostasis disturbance, leading to cell injury and even death. Accumulating evidence indicates that the dysregulation of ER homeostasis promotes the onset and progression of kidney diseases.

Introduction: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is currently regarded as an effective treatment for knee osteoarthritis, relieving patients' pain and significantly enhancing their quality of life and activity levels, allowing them to return to work and daily life after surgery. However, some TKA patients suffer from varying degrees of postoperative residual pain and opioid abuse, which negatively impacts their recovery and quality of life. It has been reported that preoperative treatment with multimodal analgesics improves postoperative pain and reduces opioid consumption.

Article Synopsis
  • Multiple complete central venous occlusion (CVO) is a rare but serious issue for patients on hemodialysis, where percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) is the main treatment method, although long-segment occlusions can be particularly difficult to manage.
  • A 76-year-old male patient experienced significant swelling in his right arm due to CVO related to his hemodialysis access, leading to successful recanalization of multiple occluded veins through a groundbreaking bidirectional technique during surgery.
  • This case marks the first documented use of superior vena cava puncture in PTA for CVO, offering a new potential option for patients with limited treatment alternatives.

Purpose: Chemotherapy-induced hepatorenal toxicity often decreases tolerance for further therapies and results in poor quality of life and prognosis for patients with lung cancer. In this meta-analysis, all related studies were systematically re-evaluated to determine whether Aidi injection relieves hepatorenal toxicity and improves tumor response, and to determine its threshold and the optimal treatment regimen for obtaining the desired responses.

Methods: All studies regarding Aidi injection with chemotherapy were gathered from Chinese and English databases (from inception until January 2019).
