Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play critical roles in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). However, their involvement in sunitinib resistance remains largely unknown. Herein, we identified a novel circRNA, named circME1, which contributes to sunitinib resistance development in ccRCC.

Background: Bladder cancer is the most common malignancy in urinary system and the ninth most common malignancy in the world. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression by targeted repression of transcription and translation and play essential roles during cancer development. We investigated the expression of miR-135a in bladder cancer and explored its bio-function during bladder cancer progression.

Obstructive azoospermia (OA) is one of the most common causes of male infertility. Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) has been used to diagnose OA for many years. From 2009 to 2013, we evaluated a prospective cohort of 1249 patients with suspected OA using TRUS.

Objective: To conduct a meta-analysis of the literature evaluating comparisons on the peri-operative and oncological outcomes between laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) and laparoscopic ablation therapy (LAT) in the treatment of small renal masses (SRMs).

Material And Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, and CNKI were searched for clinical trials comparing LPN with LAT. Data of peri-operative and follow-up outcomes were extracted and compared.

Although cancers are widely considered to be maintained by stem cells, the existence of stem cells in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has seldom been reported, in part due to the lack of unique surface markers. We here identified cancer stem cell-like cells with side population (SP) phenotype in five human RCC cell lines. Flow cytometry analysis revealed that 769P, a human clear cell RCC cell line, contained the largest amount of SP cells as compared with other four cell lines.

Reports remain insufficient on whether and how prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) can influence in vivo osseous metastasis of prostate cancer (PCa). In the present study, the authors induced stable expression of PSMA in mouse PCa cell line RM-1. In vivo osseous metastasis was induced in 37 6-week-old female C57BL/6 mice weighing 22.

Objective: To investigate the synergistical killing effect of docetaxel combined with ABT-737 on human prostate cancer cell line PC-3 by inducing apoptosis and further to determine the mechanism underlying such effect.

Methods: PC-3 cells were treated with various concentrations of docetaxel or (and) ABT-737. Cell viability was determined using MTT assay.

Astrocyte elevated gene-1 (AEG-1) is overexpressed in several cancers and plays an important role in cancer progression. However, AEG-1 expression, biological function, and clinical significance in osteosarcoma have not been uncovered. Utilizing manipulated human osteosarcoma cell lines and osteosarcoma tissues, we found that increasing expression of AEG-1 enhanced osteosarcoma cell proliferation and invasion in vitro, and knockdown of AEG-1 significantly attenuated osteosarcoma cell malignancy.

Background: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) overexpressed in prostate cancer (PCa) has been targeted for therapy and diagnosis of PCa. In the current study, PSMA cDNA was cloned from PCa tissue by RT-PCR. After sequencing, a new spliced variant of PSMA (PSM-E) was discovered and its specificity in PCa was evaluated.

Objective: To study the killing effect of human herpes simplex virus-thymidine kinase/ganciclovir (HSV-TK/GCV) system combined with allitride and the possible apoptosis mechanism in BIU87 cells.

Methods: The cytotoxicity after combination were estimated by theamine blue tetrazolium bromide (MTT). The morphological changes were observed with inverted microscope and in-situ cell apoptosis detection kit.
