Monomeric flavan-3-ols and their oligomeric forms, proanthocyanidins (PAs), are closely related to the bitterness of tea beverages. Monomeric flavan-3-ols are characteristic flavor compounds in tea. Increasing the content of PAs and anthocyanins enhances the resistance of tea plants to pathogen invasion but decreases the quality of tea beverages.

Background: Recently, some studies have suggested a link between AQP1 and cancer progression.

Aims: The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of AQP1 on the clinicopathology and prognosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) patients.

Methods: We retrospectively detected the expression of AQP1 protein in 307 patients with ICC who underwent partial hepatectomy.

At present, a variety of vaccines have been approved, and existing antiviral drugs are being tested to find an effective treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, no standardized treatment has yet been approved by the World Health Organization. The virally encoded chymotrypsin-like protease (3CL) from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which facilitates the replication of SARS-CoV in the host cells, is one potential pharmacological target for the development of anti-SARS drugs.

In this work, monoamine oxidase B was immobilised onto magnetic nanoparticles to prepare a new type of affinity solid-phase extraction adsorbent, which was used to extract the possible anti-neurodegenerative components from the Lonicera japonica flower extracts. Coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry, two monoamine oxidase B ligands were fished-out and identified as isochlorogenic acid A and isochlorogenic acid C, which were found to be inhibitors of the enzyme for the first time, with similar half maximal inhibitory concentration values of 29.05 ± 0.

Anthocyanidin reductase (ANR) is a key enzyme in the ANR biosynthetic pathway of flavan-3-ols and proanthocyanidins (PAs) in plants. Herein, we report characterization of the ANR pathway of flavan-3-ols in Shuchazao tea (Camellia sinesis), which is an elite and widely grown cultivar in China and is rich in flavan-3-ols providing with high nutritional value to human health. In our study, metabolic profiling was preformed to identify two conjugates and four aglycones of flavan-3-ols: (-)-epigallocatechin-gallate [(-)-EGCG], (-)-epicatechin-gallate [(-)-ECG], (-)-epigallocatechin [(-)-EGC], (-)-epicatechin [(-)-EC], (+)-catechin [(+)-Ca], and (+)-gallocatechin [(+)-GC], of which (-)-EGCG, (-)-ECG, (-)-EGC, and (-)-EC accounted for 70-85% of total flavan-3-ols in different tissues.

Scutellaria baicalensis is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant possessing a wide variety of biological activities. In this work, lipase immobilized on magnetic nanoparticles (LMNPs) was used as solid phase extract absorbent for screening of lipase inhibitors from this plant. Three flavonoids were found to bind to LMNPs and were identified as baicalin, wogonin, and oroxylin A by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS).

To investigate the association between preoperative HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen) level and risk of HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma) recurrence following curative resection, we enrolled 826 HBV-related HCC patients who underwent curative resection and received long-term follow-up at the Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital (Shanghai, China). Multivariate analyses showed that serum HBsAg ≥ 2000 S/CO, seropositive hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg), γ-glutamyl transpeptidase > 61 U/L, prothrombin time > 13 s, multinodularity, lager tumor size, and major portal vein invasion were independently associated with a increased risk of HCC recurrence. Compared with HCC patients with HBsAg level < 2000 S/CO, HCC patients with HBsAg level ≥ 2000 S/CO had a higher prevalence of seropositive HBeAg, antiviral therapy, and cirrhosis; were younger; and had a higher levels of alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and HBV viral load.

Background: Flavonoid 3',5'-hydroxylase (F3'5'H), an important branch point enzyme in tea plant flavan-3-ol synthesis, belongs to the CYP75A subfamily and catalyzes the conversion of flavones, flavanones, dihydroflavonols and flavonols into 3',4',5'-hydroxylated derivatives. However, whether B-ring hydroxylation occurs at the level of flavanones and/or dihydroflavonols, in vivo remains unknown.

Results: The Camellia sinensis F3'5'H (CsF3'5'H) gene was isolated from tea cDNA library.

Background: There is no information available about occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection (OBI) in individuals with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC).

Goals: To investigate the correlation between OBI and ICC.

Study: A retrospective case-control study was conducted.
