Background: During the Omicron variant outbreak of COVID-19 (2022-2023), Chinese healthcare institutions combined traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with Western medical practices to treat COVID-19 patients, especially the elderly. The efficacy and safety of this approach, especially for individuals aged over 85, need further investigation.
Methods: In this retrospective study, a cohort of 62 patients aged over 85 years, diagnosed with COVID-19 infection, was examined.
In this paper, a novel ion-imprinted electrochemical sensor modified with magnetic nanomaterial FeO@SiO was established for the high sensitivity and selectivity determination of UO in the environment. Density functional theory (DFT) was employed to investigate the interaction between templates and binding ligands to screen out suitable functional binding ligand for the reasonable design of the ion imprinted sensors. The MIIP/MCPE (magnetic ion imprinted membrane/magnetic carbon paste electrode) modified with FeO@SiO exhibited a strong response current and high sensitivity toward uranyl ion comparison with the bare carbon paste electrodes.

Because irreversible skin changes occur in the early proliferative stage, early medical treatment is essential to reduce the permanent sequelae caused by IH. Yet there are still no early screening biomarkers for IH before its visible emergence.

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intense pulsed light (IPL) in the treatment of BN.
We certify that protamine-gold nanoclusters (PRT-AuNCs) synthesized by one-pot method exhibit peroxidase-like activity. The catalytic activity of PRT-AuNCs followed typical Michaelis-Menten kinetics and exhibited higher affinity to 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) as the substrate compared to that of natural horseradish peroxidase. Meanwhile, we found that Hg(II) could dramatically and selectively enhance the peroxidase-like activity of PRT-AuNCs, and the enhanced mechanism by Hg(II) was demonstrated to be generation of the cationic Au species and the partly oxidized Au species (Au) by Hg-Au/Au interaction.

Open reading frame 57 (ORF57), a viral early protein of KSHV promotes splicing, stability and translation of viral mRNA and is essential for viral lytic replication. Previous studies demonstrated that dimerization of ORF57 stabilizes the protein, which is critical for its function.

Mas-related G-protein-coupled receptor C (MrgprC) plays an important role in modulating chronic inflammatory pain. Electroacupuncture (EA) has a satisfactory analgesic effect on chronic pain. This study aimed to investigate the involvement of MrgprC and its transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) pathway in EA analgesia in chronic inflammatory pain.

Materials And Methods: From October 2011 to October 2015, 12 patients (5 male; mean age, 26.2 y) with refractory chronic skin ulcers caused by AVMs were treated at a single institution.
Objective: The aim of this study was to describe a novel anesthesia, intralesional lidocaine anesthesia (ILA), for ethanol sclerotherapy of venous malformation and evaluate the efficacy and safety.
Methods: A prospective study of 100 patients with venous malformations undergoing 100 sclerotherapy procedures with intralesional lidocaine anesthesia (ILA) was conducted. Pain was evaluated by numeric rating scale (NRS) immediately following the procedure.
Objectives: Periorbital microcystic lymphatic malformations (LM) can cause severe symptoms, such as blepharoptosis, amblyopia, chemosis, strabismus, diminished vision, and blindness. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome in periorbital microcystic LM patients with blepharoptosis who underwent surgical treatment combined with intralesional bleomycin injection.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective study including nine patients diagnosed as periorbital microcystic LM with blepharoptosis was conducted.
Background: Infantile hemangiomas (IHs) are common childhood tumors.
Objective: Our study aimed to compare the efficacy and side effects of imiquimod and timolol maleate for the treatment of proliferating superficial IHs.
Methods: A total of 54 patients with superficial IHs were enrolled in this study.
Background: Hemangiomas are characterized by rapid growth but slow regression. Prognosis and treatment urgently require the identification of serum markers to determine the proliferative potential of hemangiomas.
Methods: Using four pairs of tissue from the proliferative and involution stages of the same hemangiomas, the authors performed cDNA microarray experiments to study differential expression of genes between proliferative hemangiomas and involuting hemangiomas.
Oral propranolol is the first-line therapy for infantile hemangioma (IH), but its mechanism of action remains unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the change in serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels in patients with IH who underwent propranolol treatment. The study included 22 patients with IH receiving propranolol treatment.

We hypothesized that, in addition to already known risk factors, such as female sex, prematurity, and low birthweight (LBW), antenatal vaginal bleeding and progesterone therapy would be highly associated with IH. We randomly selected 650 individuals with IH and matched them with 650 children of the same age and nationality without IH.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy and side effect of topical beta-blocker (Timolol Maleate) in the treatment of periocular hemangioma in a prospective study.
Methods: 432 outpatients with infantile hemangioma visited our special clinic service in Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital from July 2010 to December 2011. Among them, 12 superficial periocular lesions were selected in the study.
A novel small molecule probe, aptamer beacon (AB), was introduced for adenosine (Ade) recognition and quantitative analysis. The Ade aptamer was engineered into an aptamer beacon by adding a gold nanoparticle-modified nucleotide sequence which is complementary to aptamer sequence (FDNA) at the 3'-end of FDNA. The fluorescence signal "turning on" was observed when AB was bound to Ade, which is attributed to a significant conformational change in AB from a FDNA/QDNA duplex to a FDNA-Ade complex.

Objective: To assess the effectiveness and safety of long-pulsed 1,064-nm neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser therapy for infraorbital dark circles caused by visible prominent veins.
Participants And Methods: Twenty-six patients with venous infraorbital dark circles were treated with a Nd:YAG laser (fluence, 130-140 J/cm(2) ; spot size, 6 mm) in double-pulse mode (pulse width, 6-10 ms; interpulse interval, 20 ms).

Background: Epicanthoplasty is a procedure currently available for medial epicanthus correction. However, potential problems such as difficult designs, undercorrection, and unpleasant scarring in the medial canthus area make patients hesitant about undergoing epicanthoplasty. These barriers are challenges to surgeons.

A wireless magnetoelastic sensor has been developed for the determination of 2-naphthol (2-NAP) in human urine. This method is based on the precipitation of 2-NAP with diazonium salts produced by the diazo-reaction of sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) with nitrite under a weak alkaline condition, resulting in a descending of the resonance frequency of a wireless magnetoelastic sensor. The frequence shift values (ΔF) of the sensor were directly proportional to the concentration in the range of 1.
