Article Synopsis
  • The study reviews the human rabies epidemic in China from 1984 to 2002, highlighting significant changes in case numbers over time.
  • Initially, there were about 4,000 to 6,000 cases annually, but this decreased drastically until 1996, followed by a resurgence starting in 1998, culminating in 1,122 cases in 2002.
  • Key factors contributing to the increase include rising dog populations, low vaccination rates, poor vaccine quality, and inadequate inter-departmental cooperation, suggesting a need for improved preventive measures.
