- Function-preserving pancreatectomy like laparoscopic spleen-preserving total pancreatectomy (L-SpTP) can enhance quality of life for patients with benign or low-grade malignant pancreatic tumors, but there is little research on its use due to challenges in the procedure.
- Two cases are presented: one patient underwent L-SpTP for an intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) with a post-op finding of invasive carcinoma; another had a mucinous cystic tumor but suffered a splenic vein injury during surgery.
- Both patients recovered well and were discharged after a week, indicating that L-SpTP is potentially safe and effective, though further studies are necessary to confirm these findings.
