Human herpesvirus type 8 (HHV-8) unrelated primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) like lymphoma (PEL-LL) is an exceedingly rare non-Hodgkin lymphoma with no characteristic symptoms and consensus on the optimal treatment. This case report presents a 55-year-old man with prior HBV-related Child-Pugh B liver cirrhosis and developing activity-related dyspnea. Studies have suggested that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can protect neuronal cells from excitotoxicity, but the underlying mechanisms are still remaining elusive. In the study, we show that microvesicles released by rat bone marrow-derived MSCs (rBMSC-MVs) protect rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells from glutamate-induced excitotoxicity. BMSC-MVs upregulate Akt phosphorylation and Bcl-2 expression, downregulate Bax expression, and reduce the cleavage of caspase-3 in glutamate-treated PC12 cells.

The cytotoxicity of silver-containing borate bioactive glass was evaluated in vitro from the response of osteoblastic and fibroblastic cells in media containing the dissolution products of the glass.
