Previously, we have investigated three C-terminal esterified endomorphin-2 (EM-2) analogs EM-2-Me, EM-2-Et and EM-2-Bu with methyl, ethyl and tert-butyl ester modifications, respectively. These analogs produced significant antinociception in acute pain at the spinal and supraspinal levels, with reduced tolerance and gastrointestinal side effects. The present study was undertaken to determine the analgesic effects and opioid mechanisms of these three analogs in the formalin pain test.

We had previously shown that THY1 (CD90) is a tumor suppressor in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and that its down-regulation and loss of expression are associated with tumor metastasis, yet the mechanism leading to such effects remains unknown. In this study we show that tumor invasion could be suppressed by THY1 via adherens junction formation in a few NPC cell lines, and knockdown of THY1 would disrupt this cell-cell adhesion phenotype. Mechanistically, the activity of the SRC family kinase (SFK) member, SRC, and canonical Wnt signaling were dramatically reduced when THY1 was constitutively expressed.

Inositol hexaphosphate (IP6) is a phytochemical widely found in grains and legumes that plays an anti-cancer role. However, the mechanism underlying the inhibition of colorectal cancer metastasis by IP6 through host genes, gut microbiota, and their interactions remain elusive. In this study, 16S rRNA sequencing was used to study the effect of IP6 on gut microbiota in an orthotopic transplantation model of colorectal cancer mice.

Inducible CRISPR-dCas9 transcription system has become a powerful tool for transcription regulation and sensing. Here, we develop a new concept of small-molecule-mediated split-aptamer assembly for inducible CRISPR-dCas9 transcription activation, allowing quantitative detection and imaging of S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) in live cells. This inducible transcription system is designed by integrating one fragment of a split SAM aptamer to guide RNA (gRNA) and the other to MS2 arrays.

Tryptophan (Trp) metabolism is associated with diverse biological processes, including nerve conduction, inflammation, and the immune response. The majority of free Trp is broken down through the kynurenine (Kyn) pathway (KP), in which indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) and tryptophan-2,3-dioxygenase (TDO) catalyze the rate-limiting step. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Trp metabolism promotes tumor progression due to modulation of the immunosuppressive microenvironment through multiple mechanisms.

Based on the underwater irradiance profile measurement and water samples collection in September, October 2007 in Lake Donghu, Lake Liangzi and Lake Honghu, and in April in 2010 in Lake Kuileihu, the diffuse attenuation coefficient and the dominant attenuation factors were analyzed. The ranges of diffuse attenuation coefficient and total suspended solid (TSS), organic suspended solid (OSS), inorganic suspended solid (ISS), chlorophyll a (Chla), and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration varied less in Lake Donghu and Lake Kuileihu than in Lake liangzi and Lake Honghu. The regression analysis showed that ISS was the dominant affecting factor of transparency in Lake Donghu and Lake Kuileihu, but ISS and OSS jointly controlled the transparency in Lake Liangzi and Lake Honghu.
