Epiberberine regulates lipid synthesis through SHP (NR0B2) to improve non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.

Epiberberine (EPI), extracted from Rhizome Coptidis, has been shown to attenuate hyperlipidemia in vivo. Herein we have studied the mechanism by which EPI is active against non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) using, mice fed on a methionine- and choline-deficient (MCD) diet and HepG2 cells exposed to free fatty acids (FFA). We show that small heterodimer partner (SHP) protein is key in the regulation of lipid synthesis.
